This morning my 6th grader starts telling me about a boy in class that everyone makes fun of but she didn't know why because he was very nice. His name is Colen, pronounced COLON! My husband once knew a set of twins who were Lightning and Thunder, they didn't make it through the 9th grade. It just made me wonder if people who give thier children "unusual" names really think of the affect it will have on thier child later in life. Have you come across any horrible unique names and what do you think of them?

my son is 2 and a half and for the past week he's been waking up crying at night, every night, about 2 hours after he goes to sleep, when i go into the room, he's still asleep or at least half asleep, but lying down and squirming. when i finally manage to calm him down and ask him whats wrong, he often manages to explain a situation that happened, eg. he hit his baby brother and i smacked him bum, and he cried, obvioulsy in his words, that situation happened about a two months ago. he mentions various things, different each time, lion king, possums, i dont know what to make of it or how to help. he seems genually distraught, and after i calm him, he may still have a little cry on and off. i hug him, tell him its ok, mummy loves you, explain why i smacked him if thats the reason, and he'll hug and kiss me and say he wants to sleep. i dunno if these are night terrors, but what can i do?

For feeding and sleeping, how old do you think a baby/child, if ever should be scheduled. I put my child on a sleeping schedule at 2 months and he responded beautifully, I breast fed until he was 6 months and waited until we were done to get him on a bottle schedule and he was on a solid food schedule as soon as he started. What have you done, or planning on doing?

There are so many parents that insist on showing there children that they are leaving when the child ends up crying uncontrollably when they see mommy/daddy leave. I think its a bit selfish to show them you are leaving, istead you play and get them involved in something else and leave as they are already distracted. Itll break my heart but I think it is so much better for baby/toddler. What do you think?

Has anyone else noticed how kids dont seem to act like kids anymore, they are dressed in clothes that u would expect an adult to wear, and you hardly see them out with their dolls and prams now a days when i was a kid (which wasnt too long ago im only 22) on xmas morn we would be out playing on our new bikes or dolls and prams, now a days its all computer games and make up. i was taking my young cousin to school the other day and half the girls in her class had the short skirts n knee high socks, (she is only 7) and dont get me started on the older kids with the make up plastered on looking about 17 when they are only 12, why would mothers let their children out like that,

Our daughter has started college and is evoking her adult privliges with us, wanting to stay untill two or three in the morning. She then calls off work and is short of cash to meet her few financial obligations. We do not want to "kick her out", as she has nowhere to stay, but do not seem to see any other solution.

My son was diagnosed with ADHD about two years ago. It olny seems to appear when he is in school, can't consintrate always needs help and can't understand verbal instruction unless repeated a few time. Show him physical intrustions and he's fine. He is very hands on kid you show him and he can repeat it. Is there anything that I can do to help him be less one on one with the teachers because they all complain that he needs to much attention from them.

Any suggestion on how to get her to go to bed earlier. Like around 8pm. Also we live in an apartment and I am affraid that if I let her scream it out then I will get CPS called on me because it has happen before not to me but others around.

My son is in the 1st grade and they had a fight with his classmate. The parent of his classmate went to their classroom and scold him. I had a conference with the teacher and I told her that it should not supposed to happen because the parent has no RIGHT to scold my son even if my son has done something bad(given the benefit of the doubt that my son started the fight). I believe that only us ( I and his Dad) and the teacher has the RIGHT to scold him if he has committed something that is bad; the teacher being the second parent if the child is in school. I also felt bad about this because I pity my son who haven't and can't do anything when the parent scold him.

Hate it when your out in public and your kids want to have a spit about not getting something and you have to say no for very good reason, but the tantrum attracts the eye of strangers who look at you as if you are mistreating your kids or they are waiting for you to do so. I find that happens alot around where I live (Australia) and not so much when I was living in Ireland. But the kids grow out of it and they aren't too bad for it.

When my ex and I broke up after 7 years I moved to another state. Things are great here as far as financially and being independant. I could not survive financially in the state I was in, but here we can survive comfortably. My oldest daughter is 10. My daughter is having a hard time not having her stepdad in her life anymore, she turns it on me, its all my fault. She is very disrespectful towards me and is violent toward her younger sister and brother (age 7 and 3). I have tried everything (grounding, spanking, extra chores) she just doesnt change. When she talks to her stepdad on the phone he can get her to behave, but I cant. It is not possible for her to be with him as he is recovering from drug addiction. We chose not to tell the kids about the drug addiction for obvious reasons, but she really needs that male role model. ANy suggestions? I have no boyfriend, husband, family member around. Please help, serious help only.

Are my dad and my school too strict? I am 15 and go to school in Texas.

My dad was very upset because he had to miss a few hours of work to visit my school to talk to the principal get my in-school suspension reduced from 3 days to 1 day, and to get the 1 day served taken off of my record. However, I had to agree to 10 days of detention, licks (embarrassing!) from the female vice principal (yes they allow it here, I know how lame) who hates me, writing an essay about why what I did was wrong and I am suspended from cheerleading for until my detention is served.

I am also grounded for 3 weeks (2 originally but I got an extra for talking back) and lost my allowance for a month, with extra chores while I am grounded. All I get to keep is computer and phone, so I guess it could be worse. The worst was he screamed at me. All he cares about is missing work. He does not care about me as much as his job and honestly I would have rather just served the whole in school suspension.

Many people stereotype that just because you had a baby or two as a teen, then that means that they are all high school dropouts that never make it to college. How hard was it to raise a baby & go to school @ the same time?

My best friend proved this theory wrong. She had a baby @ age 15 & she's now 27 with her Master's Degree.
