My stepson just gave me and my husband a note from one of his teachers that he had failed to turn in homework 2 days last week and she was giving him afterschool detention on Monday. The letter basically doesn't give us a choice, it just says to pick him up at 3:45. My husband is a truck driver and is not even in the county during the day. I work about and hour away from the school and I can not at this short notice take off work early to pick him up. That is why he rides the bus to a neighbors house. What I want to know is if this is usually a mandatory thing that parents have no say so on? When I was in school, we didn't have after school detention. It was done during school, like during recess or free period. I have typed up a letter telling the teacher that we can not pick him up Monday. Should we try to call her tonight to discuse this? That is if we can find her phone number.

I have a 2 yr old, he goes to a large daycare where all the providers are certified, etc. I have asked one of the teachers if she would be interested in doing some babysitting on the side and she said yes. I did check w/the daycare first to be sure this was okay w/them, they said its fine. Anyway, this is my total first go-around with a babysitter and I don't know what the usual rate of pay is. I don't need to (interrogate) interview her as I already know she is able to provide child care but what should I know before I have my first formal conversation with her about officially starting w/her. I have only one child, he's two, she (babysitter) is probably 18ish, she will be traveling to my house in her vehicle, etc. Should I take this into consideration when I pay her? I don't THINK she would be chatting on the phone, inviting friends over, etc and should I bring these things up before she works for me or only in the event it becomes a problem. I like to be thorough up front.

My Niece knows how to get her way and uses Incredible made up stories that she claims of reason's of getting attention, pitty, etc. She has been caught a few times by me in her lying story telling that involved my daughter as the bad doer @ fault of concerns. I have tryed to exspained to her that she's wronge by setting up a sittuation for her bennifits for getting attention or the praised "Good Child" for Telling the truth{her truth}!! This is Evil too me!!! Now she has claimed that she started her period for reasons where her panties are missing to my mother. This has been claimed before. She wants to be a adult so badly to lye this.x2! Stupid my option but shes a child. She trys to control everyone basicly, her father has made it a compition with his relationships causing her to be desperate What do we do? & Denial is!

I have 4 children who are sometimes ungrateful and have show no respect for the food. Instead of getting out a belt, I decided to feed them noodles until they can appreciate the food and what it takes to get it.

My daughter is 9 and she has complained that a friend in her class has been bullying her; she has known the girl for 6 years and they have often gotten on well, but she has a fierce temper and a nasty streak. Two months ago her father died very suddenly from cancer, naturally she is devastated and is understandably full of hurt and a fierce anger. This has made her behaviour at school more extreme and she has been upsetting my daughter and scaring her a little bit. I know her mother well and feel I cannot approach her as she can barely cope with everything at the moment, life is horrendous for her and I can't put more pressure on her, I know she is the one getting the worst of her daughters anger, upset and temper. I'm sure the family is having councelling, has anyone got any coping techniques for my daughter, I have tried to explain why her friend is behaving the way she is, but she doesn't fully comprehend it.

I've asked questions before about my neighbors and how they completely let their daughter run wild. She's outside by herself and she's only 4. She runs in the street and everything else. Her parents are completely oblivious when it comes to their daughter. I asked if I should report them to authorities because they don't seem to watch her and when they are watching her they might as well not be. She stands outside on the top of their car when it's lightning and runs across the street barefoot where there's broken glass and nails (the builder in my neighborhood is building a new house across the street from them). Anyway, yesterday the most terrible thing happened---and I feel almost responsible for it. I'm sitting at home and I look out the window and 3 cop cars drive by along with an ambulance and a firetruck. My neighbor (the little girl's father) was taken away in handcuffs. His wife was had ran next door to my other neighbor and apparantly (from what I saw) she had been beaten.

My step daughter is 5'1 and weighs maybe 90lbs, she is fifteen. She constantly hits herself and says that she is fat. I know that a negative body image is relatively normal for her age, but she seems angry all the time and out of control. I think she is suffering from anorexia, but her mom says no she is fine, just mad at something. Why won't she at least talk to her dr just to make sure? I try not to over step my boundaries, but she passed out the other day, and frankly, I am scared for her health. Any advice on if this sounds like a problem or how to handle it?

I've never before heard such nonsense and rubish when it comes to pitting one against the other. I hear it all the time, "Oh if you use cloth diapers, you use so much water". Or, "All the laundry soap and washing and drying".

People are so small minded. I guess there's no water used whatsoever in the pulp and paper process of manufacturing disposable diapers. (Ya right). Oh and of course, there's no other environmental concerns from big corporations poluting our waterways and water table systems. (Ya right once again).

What about baby's comfort? I wouldn't dream of wearing disposables myself, so why would I put my baby in them? Their scatchy, rough, fit poorly, and look pathetic, never mind the asinine expense of affording them.

I'm not at all against mothers who use disposable diapers, to each their own. But when people throw off the cuff comments around when they don't know what their talking about, it causes me to question people's sanity.

Ignorance is not a virtue.
