Read her the book: The Boy Who Cried Wolf. My son used to do things and I'd say well I can't trust you because of all the times you've done it before, just like the boy who cried wolf. Most kids go through a lying phase, but you can't let it get out of control or she will turn into a pathological liar. Try and be understanding and patient, she already has 2 strikes against her (her mom&dad). Don't let this go on for too long, if she doesn't change soon, get her professional help! I feel for you and your daughter because I had a niece who did the same exact thing to another niece and my sister always believed her lying daughter. Fortunately, everyone in the family knew who the real bad seed was. I'll pray for you, your daughter and your niece.

What I will tell you is this: (I dont want to scare you)
My father is a psychiatrist and the story goes my husbands 24 yr old cousin stayed with is to get his life together. He lied since day of birth and thought it was always the blame card like your neice. He like many many people have a depression like discrder that comes from the first 2 years of life. You see when a mother especially is not aound for the first 2 years the majority of these cases become similar. I am going to attach a like. Now wheather or not this is your situation I dont know but look for the signs in this like. Stealing lying, etc. If you notice this get her a doctor like a psychiatrist. NOT a therapist!!!! Someone who specializes in chilren. The link makes the name "Psychopath) extreme and a word over used today and I am not saying she is a psychopath. Just read it and I hope it helps. Also drphil.com always has good advice on this.

All you can do is whenever she tells you something (even if you know it's true) is to tell her you don't believe her. When she says "Why don't you believe me?" you just say "You've lied to me before so how do I know you're telling the truth now?" Just say that to her everytime she tells you something and eventually she will say or even scream maybe "I am telling the truth!!" and you can say "You've lied before, so I'm afraid I can't believe anything you say anymore." Finally when she gets fed up and demands that you believe what she's saying just tell her you believe her and that if she wants you to believe her then she can't lie anymore.

just sit her down and try to explain it to her again. tell her it is wrong to want to control everyone and everything. tell her it isn't funny to lie like that and that doing this is not going to help her keep her friends around either. people don't like liars. tell her that if she wants to be an adult so badly then she needs to stop doing what she is doing and then maybe people will start treating her like an adult.
