letting your children 10 and under, watch scary movies? If you let them watch( with you, I hope) do you discuss with them what they have seen and explain to them the movie making process? My 5 year old likes to watch movies with me and his father. I make sure to keep open communication so that he feels comfortable discussing anything with me that may bother him and I make a point of asking. He is very mature for his age as a result.

I just wanted to add that he doesn't watch anything that is too grotesque or sexy. ( I do have limits!)

To what degree should the world be sanitized for children? Places like this site? How about art? Should there be nothing racy on TV at all? Or is it more the parents' responsiblility to keep their children away from certain things?

...is afraid of everything (i.e. bugs, thunderstorms, leaving the driveway, the ocean, etc.) everything else is fine, she is a great student good with friends and her sister, but she is extremely terrified of many things and it keeps her from enjoying a lot of things.

produced a kid. Anyways I finf myself not liking him these days. HE IS MOODY, BITTER AND NEGATIVE. He cant enjoy things without picking out all the negative things about whatever. He is also a huge procrasinator. Before I moved in with him his home was dump (litterally) he had dog **** in his basement form his dogs and his mother (who lived in the suite in the home) was a pig. There were maggots and bugs and cat piss and dog **** everywhere.
When I came into into the picture I got his mother out of the house and she got her own apartment. The house got a total redo. It now looks nice.
Anyways I am not happy with this person, I feel bitter and I never was this way before. I am tired of living with such a bitter man, yes he does have his moments of normalcy but then he changes and because bitchy. We have a kid and that is the only reason I am here, he is too young for me to really leave.
We have done councelling and I am really fed up with him, I dont know what to do?

I asked my kids to clean last weekend and upon 'inspection' found things in the closet and under the bed.

Do they really think we're not going to look there?

everything seems legit their client list includes barclays bank, the national lottery, adams ,mothercare and next they require a one off payment of £128.00 for a three year contract i really want to go for it but my partner is a little dubious should i go for it or not?
I know i should only do it if she is happy and her needs are put first and of course i will make sure everything is ok for her .

First of all, don't get me wrong: I am neither talking about parents physically abusing their children, nor I intend to do it to my kids when I have them. I am just asking: do you think it is ok for a parent to slap a kid who is being terrible, throwing tantrums in public and not responding to any forms of reasoning? I understand that it in no way should be a form of parenting, but I guess parents sometimes can be driven nuts and loose their patience. Have you experienced it? Have you done it to your kid? What were the consequences?

She doesn't like going on the floor but it just happens so quik. I have tried rewarding her and we always jump and dance and clap when she goes on the toilet..and she is so proud of her self but how do we get her completly out of diapers even at night? Is it just a matter of time?

I'm a stay at home dad of an 18 month old boy. During the day I generally have no problem putting him to sleep, but at night he only wants his mother. Now, this is great for me as I get to stay in bed, but frustrating for my wife and for us as a couple. Any advice? Extra info: my wife still breastfeeds at bedtime and first thing in the morning although we plan to wean over the summer. Also, we have chosen to not let him cry himself to sleep, so don't bother with that advice. Anything else is greatly appreciated.

I am the "step" father... though I am the one that raises the child. Her bio-father, has not paid child suport in over 2 years, and is currently in jail for that reason. He never calls, and only asks to see her about once or twice a year. Me and her mother would like to get full custody... Is this a hard process? Expensive? We don't have much money, but we do wnt what is right for our daughter, and we both feel that is him not being in her life until she is old enough to make that decision on her own.

we just had a baby and our four year old has been use to all of our attention. I was just wondering how parents with two or more children juggle teaching their children what they need to know (at different ages), their attitude changes, work, housework, family and finances?
My four year old is going into head start and needs to know how to write his name and recognize and sounds letters out.. nothing dramatic for a four year old but finding time to do this and take care of the baby and the rest of this stuff.. is getting frustrating .. if someone could help me with getting organized or just some advice i would appreciate it!!!

I have tried grounding him from playstation, TV, Computer, and going out to play. I have spanked him maybe 2-3 times over the years and would like to avoid that. He gets in trouble at school for talking back to teachers and trying to show them up constantly, also horseplay with others and talking until he gets in trouble after being warned. He gets good grades (A/B's) exceft for an F in conduct every quarter. Now he got kicked out of school for argueing with a teacher. What is a good serious punishment I can really get a point across to him to stay out of trouble? (Other than kicking his butt)
