No. My theory is that if the TV is on all the time, they get bored with it. I have a 4-year-old and a 2-yr-old who would rather do ANYTHING than watch TV. This has actually sort of backfired on me cuz when I WANT them to watch TV so I can get something done, they don't even want to. I believe that the more you limit TV, the more they want it and will not leave it. The TV is on in our house all the time just as kind of background. Don't stress about it.
I also make sure that it is on something decent; Noggin is my favorite bc all day until 5 pm it is educational. My oldest son learned to count and speak some spanish from Noggin!!

Right now my TV is on Nickelodeon my kids are not even in the house.
That is a typical day at my house. Or if they are in the house most of the time they are not watching it.
I keep my TV on all the time just because...but they very rarely actually sit and watch it. I do not have to limit their time. They are so used to it being on they don't really care about it. And they much rather be outside playing, fighting over toys, pulling each others hair, reading etc.

We don't have a set amount of time, but the TV in the living room has to be off until homework is done and during meal times. Between homework and dinner and bath time, however long that happens to be, they can watch whatever they want. After baths we clean rooms, and the reward for cleaning up quickly is extra TV time before bed. Saturday mornings are the exception ~ we pretty much leave the cartoons on until noon. Then I send them outside or to their rooms to play. They have TVs in their rooms, but not cable, so they can play games or watch videos. They hardly ever just *sit* and watch, usually it's just on while they play.

My wife was the one who wanted to limit the tv. WOW was she right. My kids still love to watch tv, but my son is 11 and top reader in his class same with my 8 year old daughter. There imagination is amazing and the grades are great. I strongly believe it is because they don't have tv on all th time and they don't have stupid shows they become attached to and want to watch every day.

I allow 45 min of tv a day for the children in the summer and when school is not in session. I make sure they have activites to keep them from being bored. If they complain I give them chores to do little mundane things. Print coloring pages and activity papers via internet is a great way to get them to do other things and of course letting them play outside is great too.

Our tv is almost always on, but for the most part noone watches it. It's even usually on when no one is home. The only time my kids actually sit down and watch it is when they are tired, then they are usually asleep within 15 minutes. We are usually outside though unless its raining or too hot or cold. Otherwise, they run around the house and play with their toys or sing and dance with me.

We try...it's harder during winter months (I live in Wisconsin) when the weather is crappy...no more than and hour a day....except when we have family movie night....my kids don't really know any different, that's just the way it is...we try to keep them busy outside most of the day during nice weather.

No..only because they dont watch too much to begin with. They were never TV-aholics. They would rather play with a friend.
