Boy, aren't YOU opening up a can of worms! In my opinion, I don't think the world should be sanitized (this is in terms of potentially objectionable materials or adult concepts, not in terms of germs), because sheltering our children too much only means they are naive when they enter the real world. Sex is out there. Drugs and alcohol abuse are out there. Violence is out there. So is war and hatred, greed, racism, profanity, pornography, cheats and swindlers, child molesters and generally unpleasant people. They should learn about them and understand why some things are considered wrong by our society and why some people still do them. The responsibilty lies with the parents and the educational system to ensure that children are exposed to these concepts, but at an age-appropriate time and in the right environment, when they are ready for it. Otherwise, what lesson will have taught them what to do when they see something racy or violent, or even to recognize what they're experiencing? Protecting our children is one thing; hiding the truth about life is another thing entirely.

I was born in the 70's and my parents let us watch TV and were more parents than i think we are to our kids now. Simply we can't sanitize everything but we can as parents guide our children in the right direction. It is unfortunately the parents who turn a blind eye or try to shelter there kids that do more damage. Be honest and true in life with the things you teach your kids and they will be OK.

I think that there is way too much promiscuis media and art in the world. However, I choose not to expose myself or my children to anything I don't feel is appropriate for us. Just because it's out there doesn't mean we HAVE to look at it. Nobody's forcing anybody to look at anything. There are ways to lock out tv channels and websites so children aren't exposed to unacceptable situations. It's definitely the parents' responsibility.

It's the parents responsibility. I don't need the world to be nanny for ME just because everybody's main intrest is to "think of the kids". If that happens, you'll get the world you deserve: a world full of nothing but Barney and Smurfs, with absolutely no adult discourse.

it's for the parents to watch there kids. some parents don't want there kids to see things they might think is to racy for there kids. other parents might want to show there kids and explain what they see to there kids. the world doesn't need to be sanitized for kids, parents need to take the responsibility.

I believe it's the parents responsibility. Why can't PARENTS moniter the shows their kids watch. Why can't PARENTS moniter their kids on the computer. I hear all these parents saying things that their kids are doing and seeing, but isn't it our job as parents to look after our children?
