Newborn & Baby - July 2007

I'm having a fit because my mother in law insists on giving our son food! He's almost 5 months old, and I am at my wits end. She says it's ok that's how we did it back in the day, she also gives him diluted juice. Why do older people take it upon themselves to do whatever they think is right for your child? When can he have this stuff?

From yellow tomato seed looking poop to baby acne, I'm finding out a lot of things I've never heard before about newborns, what did you "never hear" before you had your baby?

I use the regular Nestle Good Start and I signed up for Nestle's baby program. They sent me an awesome diaper bag with a bottle, coupons, and a can of Nestle Good Start with Omega 3 and 6. Can I use this kind of formula when my baby is used to just the regular kind? I also have a can of Enfamil A+ I would like to use that I got for free too. Is that what they mean by you can't switch formulas or does that mean from milk to soy, or something?

My 9 wk old won't take the bottle consistantly. We searched for good nipples (she seems to like a Playtex laytex nipple) and I've had other people (dad, grandma, future care-taker, etc) feed her while I was out of the room. My baby will take to the bottle sometimes, but other times she'll scream, and I'll give in and put her on my breast (in which case she settles down nicely). THis could be a problem as I plan to start back to work when my baby is 12 weeks old (3 weeks away); I'm afraid that feeding time will be frustrating for her care-taker.

I have seriously considered not going back to work or asking my employer to cut back my 3/4 time to 1/2 time. Money could be an issue if I cut back on my work, but time will tell as my husband is interviewing for a new job. I am hoping that his new job pays well so that I CAN cut back my work load so that I can spend more time with babe!

Opinions? Ideas? Thanks!

I'm seriously starting to pull my hair out because I am at such a loss for what to do. She is such a happy baby, but I can not be out of her line of sight for more than 3 seconds (no exaggeration) before she starts seriously screaming. If I'm sitting on the floor with her she's fine and can play and entertain herself, but if I'm sitting on the couch or standing she wants me to hold her and screams bloody murder until I do.

I don't know what to do. She's started walking and does have a lot of independence for her age, so why is she soooo clingy to me? Separation anxiety was cute at first, but when you can't even go to the bathroom by yourself, it gets annoying, but I love my daughter and I don't want her to cry or feel scared every time I'm not in her direct presence.

How long will this last? Is there anything I can do to prevent or make it better? Does anyone else know how I feel??

I've been thinking of opening a daycare for a long time now, and think I may want to specialize in infant care. In visiting our local daycares, I feel that the infant classes aren't as important and tend to get left in the dust of the 2+ aged children. Would you be interested in a daycare for your 6+ week old-24mo? I realize that it may be inconvenient to have to search for a new daycare at that time, but previous to this, they would have all the focus of the staff, optimal care and age appropriate developmental education for the first 2 years of their life. This would give them the best imaginable foundation, second only to being one on one with you, their parents. What are your thoughts or feelings on this?

MY son is over 4 months, he eats a little cereal in the morning for breakfast.. And throughout the day, he eats about 5 oz.. But at nighttime bottle, after bath, he'll eat 10 oz... even if he just ate 2 hours ago... So should i feed him dinner? Some kind of veggie or something? Or just stick to 10 oz.. Which is alot and he spends the next morning spitting up everything..

he does great with cereal by the way.

I am a single mum of two babies. One 13 mnths and one 2 mnths old. The 2 mnth old is still waking at night about evry 4 hrs to feed and the 13 mnth still wakes occassionaly at night. I am so so exhausted all the time and extremely tired. The father never takes them at night and I never get a break. Has anyone had babies this close in age? Does it get easier as they get older? Any advise, please help. Im at breaking point.

my sister was meant to have a baby shower 2 months ago, but she got sick and canceled it. however, everyone still bought her presents and she has since bought everything she needs , and has more gifts on the way from other family members once the baby is born . so there is nothing left for me to get her for the baby , she's having a girl and she's due on the 7th aug .. do you think this is a good gift idea to give her once the baby is born?

Has anyone else had something similar to this happen? I had an epidual with my first baby and didn't have any lasting effects from it.
