I have four children and I always used up my freebies by putting one ounce of free forumla in with 3 ozs of their regular formula. They all did just fine.
Also, don't be afraid to switch. With my first baby she was fussy and rashy and never sleeped well. I had her on the formula my Dr. put her on, and kept it that way. With my next child, she was acting the same way - even though my Dr told me not to, I switch from lactose based formula to a soy based formula. The difference was night and day - it's like I flipped a switch. (I always gradually made the change by mixing the two for a few days.)

All formulas are not alike.
My children could tolerate only Good Start or they'd constipate.
The reason for "not switching" is just because it's hard on the baby's system to adjust to a continually changing diet when it's so young and new. A baby can suffer from stomach or digestive system upset from the introduction of new things so it's more of a precaution. The same thing can happen if you overdilute a formula your baby is used to.
It is not good to give your baby a formula that is specially fortified to have extra iron unless it has been recommended by your doctor or health nurse.
As far as Good Start is concerned the Omega 3 and 6 is not something that will upset your baby if you've been feeding him or her the regular kind.
As far as Enfamil, just make sure it doesn't have "extra iron" and watch the expiration date.
What I did when I got free formulas was mix it up and then give it half-and half with the Good Start. That way my babies didn't "react" to the change.

I wouldn't keep switching the formula on the baby cause that could cause some discomfort, I think you could probably use the can of Nestle because its just about the same. Unless it says for babies such and such age. You can also call the number on the back that says if you have any questions or concerns. I would say the whole shouldn't switch formulas thing is like a You shouldn't switch formula's without consulting the baby's pediatrician first.

well.. in my opinion all formulas are alike.. They have to have certain amount of nutrients and have to processed similar way to be approved by the FDA...
You can change your child's formula, although i dont know if i would so many times. The consistency of formulas are very different.. open the formula and poke around with the scoop and smell them.. they wil all be different...
you didn't mention how old your baby was... But anyways, i've known people that switched their baby's formula often and never had any problems.. Only thing is, she may have more gas with one and not the other.. So i think your baby will be okay, just don't do it too often.
and no, you do not need to mix the formulas together... Like i said, different consistencies.. You are supposed to make the right amount of 1 kind of formula with water... I dont think mixing is a good idea at all.. Why would people do it.. all formula stinks and taste bad... the baby may not even know you changed it.

Different formulas have have different ingredients (some are soy-based, some are milk based, some have special ingredients, etc), which is why you are not supposed to switch without asking the doctor first. Also, changing formulas suddenly can affect how your baby's tummy feels.
The best person to answer this question is your baby's pediatrician. He or She will know what's best for your baby's needs.

I use to switch all the time when I bought name brand formula's. It depended on who I had a coupon for. He's been drinking Parent's Choice from Walmart more months now and all the switching has never bothered him.

I don't know, I've switched and it hasn't upset my girl's tummy. Just mix old with the new for a couple of days and then start using only the new version...Ease into the new formula.
As with anything you put into your child you should ease them into it...I did with rice. put a little in one of her bottles for a week or so, then tried spoon feeding. Then added banana to the cereal, then just banana. Then try sweet peas with cereal, then just sweet peas, etc.

I wont switch unless your PED tells you to. when you sign up for companies like that they just send that stuff to get you to use. It's like free advertizement for them. I would give it to someone who is using it or to homeless shelter that would have kids or throw it away. It is up to you. I had all kinds of free formula like that. But thankfully i had people to give it away to.
They gave it and i wasnt even formula feeding yet.
