I had a baby 9 weeks ago. I was given an epidural at the very end of my labor.....anyhow part of my thigh on one of my legs still doesn't have all of the feeling back. Has anyone else had something similar to this happen? I had an epidual with my first baby and didn't have any lasting effects from it.
Thanks

There are many causes of such symptoms that may be completely unrelated to the epidural. The areas you describe are likely served by the femoral nerve, which provides sensation to the front of the thigh and innervation to the quad muscles. or the lateral femoral cutaneous nerve, which provides sensation to the outside of the thigh. Both these nerves and others can be injured during labor and delivery whether you have an epidural or not. Get checked out by a neurologist, who should be able to tell the difference.

I had horrible headaches after my first... they said it was caused by the hole they make for the epidural and that it too needs time to heal... I had to have a blood patch to help it heal up. I can imagine that it would be the same thing for your leg as well... maybe it just needs to continue healing.... if it hasn't gotten any better at all in the last 9 weeks or obviously if it has or does worsen call your OB. Chances are though that you are still healing and we all know healing can take it's sweet time! (Congrats on the new baby though!)

I had an epidural 18 years ago. Ever since there is spot on my back that if ANYONE touches I will beat them within an inch of their life.

hey, i had a epidural in late stages aswell, and a year later my lower back still has that feeling, it does go away after a while but then i got it back after bad cold conitions, i still do get back pain, but there are exercises you can do that will ease any problems, but yeah, the numbness did go away after about 6 months for me..

I had a similar experience. My left foot felt asleep for the first couple of months.

I was told my dr that it will go away eventually.
