this condition always used to be referred to as the three month colic meaning that it usually stops at around three months of age.
babies take in a lot of air when they are sucking their bottle and if they are not winded properly then this wind will pass into the bowels along with the milk and cause pain.
to combat this problem with my youngest child who suffered a lot with colic i started putting a teaspoon of gripe water in every bottle of formula milk and this helped a great deal.
there was also a medicine called infacol for babies with persisitent colic .
as the baby gets older and starts to take solids the wind problem usually disappears.

Doctors will say 3 months..but it isn't the complete true. Most colic cases end at 6 months or 7. My baby brother has colic..he is 5 months old and is little better..we predict it will leave at 6. don't worry i know how colic is..a living hell. but evrything has its end.
GOODLUCK

starts around 3 weeks... peaks at 6 weeks, starts fading at 10.. and in most cases completely vanishes by 4 months..
get "Happiesnt Baby On the Block" Harvey Harp... explains reason for colic, such as why isn't not gas, reflux or any other reasons.. Tells you how to deal with it and keep your sanity.

From 3 weeks old to 3 months old (about 9-12 weeks).
I recommend the book "Happiest Baby on the Block" by Harvey Karp.

about 3 months.....it seem to start to go away after they start eating a little solids (like a little cereal in the milk), but i would not start the cereal until about 31/2 to 4 months. start off with a little at a time, then build as they get bigger.
around 2 1/2 to 3 months, give baby about 2 to 3 oz of plain nursery water a day....it helps to settle their stomach.
make sure you burp baby to get rid of gas too.

Well, I think the norm is 2-3 months, but I had a nursing baby who was colicky for 6 to 9 months and it drove me crazy. Nursing babies are usually NEVER colicky!

My younger sister had it. She had it till the time she was 18months. I actually think that's a little over the usual amount of time though.
