Okay.... it can be VERY confusing the first time. Just remember that their little bellies can't handle much change... especially not all at once. And you need to watch carefully for allergic reations to the new foods.

If you started her on rice cereal, I would stay with rice cereal through 2 - 3 boxes (not feedings... BOXES) Then move on to another... again, stay with the next one for 2 - 3 boxes. Then move on. When you move through the grains and get ready for baby food do the same thing. You'll begin with your vegetables.... Pick one... such as... ummm... green beans... stay with it for 2 - 3 days then pick another, and so on and so forth. Then introduce the fruits and mixed stuff next after you've gone through all the single cereals and veggies. This is so your child will not develop an early preference for the sweet stuff and not eat what's most healthy for her. And finally you should introduce the meats.

Once you've introduced a new food, you can always go back to the previous one, just don't move on to the next one till you've been on the new one for a couple of days.

This is all to help you determine if and what you're child might be allergic too in addition to trying not to cause her a belly ache. During your 2 -3 day trial periods with any of her foods, watch for rashes, vomiting, or any other signs of reaction. Report anything unusual (along with what the new food was) to your doctor immediately.

Good luck and God Bless!

Try one cereal at a time. The best to start with is rice cereal. Other beginners cereal are barley and wheat. Usually the 8+ month cereals are mixed with fruit thus the reason it is not recommended for younger babies. Once you have introduced most/all fruit to your baby and have ruled out allergies, then you can use those cereals, before that, stick to the basics. You probably know this already but wait 3 days before introducing a new cereal to rule out any allergies. Good luck!

You only need to try them for about a week to tell if she has a reaction before you start the next one. Do only one at a time (not like a mixed cereal) so you know which is causing a problem if she does have one.

I only did rice and oatmeal before switching to baby food. You don't have to use the whole box, but can if you want.

I was told start with Rice. Then go throught the grains 1 at a time to make sure there were not allegies or sensativities.
Most babies don't like the wheat. Blech!

At 8 months we were into the jar foods and some stuff from the table (mashed potatoes, mashed sweet potatoes).
My son continued to breast feed until 13 months.

normal nervous 1st baby question...
give one cereal, like the rice, for at least 7 to 10 days to ensure she has no allergy or problem with it.
then try another cereal for the next 7 to 10 day period.
Do single grain cereals, not mixed cereals, not cereal mixed with fruit.
After you've been through ALL the single cereals, you can try some mixed cereals if you wish.

When you try any new food, cereal, vegetable, fruit, etc. try it first plain instead of a mixed blend. This allows the baby to learn what each individual item / flavor truly tastes like. It also tells you if any are allergenic for your baby.

Once you try single items, then you can do blended or mixed flavors.

You can also use your blender and blend your own baby food from the food you prepare for yourself and your husband. Some vegetables are not in commercial baby food lines, so I used to make my own of those vegetables especially. Also, it got my children used to food prepared as I cook - and with less salt than is used in commercial foods.

I started my daughter on rice cereal, then when there wasn't a reaction I stopped with the boxed stuff and bought the rice with applesauce and bananas (in the jar). I fed her that for a few weeks then added a new food each week. Just relax and enjoy your baby.

Ok, you started her on Rice Cereal and if after a week or two she is doing fine, try a new one for a few weeks. And so on. The time period allows you to see if she will have a problem eating that particular new item.

Try giving her oatmeal or mixed grain. You were suppose to start it at 4 months . At her age she needs to be eating jar food with cereal. When you are making her cereal add some baby food to it make it appealing to her. Try making it thick. I know that my daughter liked the flavored cereal. They have oatmeal with bananas.

I would let her gradually be introduced to the different grains. Maybe try a new one every two weeks or so. that way you can monitor and make sure that she is digesting it well, and not having any allergies to any of them.
