It's okay in my book. I've been using adult shampoo on my 2 year old for quite some time because I never thought baby shampoo rinsed out well enough. But, yes, just be very careful about her eyes. At her age it should be pretty easy because she will probably cooperate pretty well. On my son, I use only like a pea sized amount--or less. My sister in law was told by her doctor to use regular old Head and Shoulders on her infant son for his cradle cap. So, yes I think it's okay.
(edit) Well, I see that my opinion is different from most, again! Just some additional info: Most people are under the impression that baby shampoo is tear-free because it is so pure and natural. That is not true. It is tear-free because it contains a numbing agent (like Novocaine). Yes, it does prevent the eyes from feeling the pain of shampoo in them. And it does hurt like the dickens to get shampoo in your eyes--I've done it. Just some more info.

You didn't say what kind of shampoo. Most are full of fragrance that would irritate her sensitive skin. Although if you used a shampoo that was very mild, I think Dove makes one, than I would think it would be okay if she was a bit older. But my question is why do you need or want to use shampoo? Baby shampoo/wash should be all your baby needs. At 4 weeks I wouldn't use anything except baby shampoo.

Like the others said, the perfumes and dyes could be too harsh for your little one's delicate skin. Plus, you'd feel so awful if you accidentally got some in Ava's eyes.
Sometimes I use the baby wash on my daughter's hair; if you are out of shampoo, try that instead. It's tear-free and is gentle and really there's not a whole lot of difference between liquid body soap and shampoo.

Does your baby have cradle cap (dry flaky scalp. it looks like dandruff)? My baby had cradle cap and after he turned 2 months my doctor told me that I could use a little Selsum Blue in his hair to get rid of the flakes. The shampoo wasn't harmful to babies skin and it helped with the flaky scalp. I wound recommend that but why do your baby need regular shampoo if he or she is just 1 month old. I would say to check with your doctor before you do anything. Every baby and doctor is different. Good luck and God Bless.

I never used anything but adult shampoo, but like another poster said, more like a pea sized amount (unless your sweetie is one of those with a full head of hair at birth).
The baby shampoo stuff is just marketing, and when we did use it at Grandma's, and it got into their eyes, it still stings!
Congrats on your little one.

I used a small amount of Head and Shoulders on my babies when they started to get signs of cradle cap.... it really works wonders... but otherwise I would say stick with baby shampoo it's much milder for them. Their skin is super sensitive yet.

I wold suggest not to , unstead use her bar soap . Baby soap is formulated for their tender baby soft skin. She may even get a rash because of all the chemicals in the soap.
I would'nt take a chance , she cant be so dirty that a little bit of warm water cant clean!

No. First of all her skin is still far to sensitive to handle the fragrance/color additives of regular shampoo. Secondly, the odds of you getting it in her eyes are too great.
