Newborn & Baby - July 2007

We are thinking about having another baby, sooner rather than later. Our son is 2 in Oct so we think its a good time to have another. I am concerned about coping with pregnancy, a toddler and work!

I also can't imagine feeling as much love for another child as I do for my son.

I really want to have another one but I worrying about how I will cope with a new born and a toddler! I know the baby years are such a small part.

My son is now 6mo and just started solids a month ago. For the first time he is constipated and I just bought some prune juice today to mix with his boiled water. How many parts juice should I put with the water? Thanks in advance.

I've noticed that running water from a faucet seems to calm crying babies. I've never figured out why, although I heard that some proponents of the swaddling method recommend that parents make a "shushing" sort of sound when they swaddle and rock the baby.

Thoughts?

Hello I am sick of reading those websights and stuff like that. I want to hear straight from other moms all the things I should know about my son at this age, what I can do with him, What I can start to feed him, games to play, and much more. Any thing you can help me with is great. Also what things should he be doing at 3 months? When I look in books he is already doing things a 5 month old should.

My M-I-L lives hours away by plane. She is insisting that she buy an "open" ticket so she can jump on a plane the second I go into labor. Her intention is to care for my almost 3 year old son and, of course, with the new baby.

Here is the problem: Obviously we have to have other childcare in place - it will still take her a hours get here, but she seems offended by that. Secondly, she came 3 weeks after my son was born to "help" and she was absolutely NO help. In fact, she was so aggravating, I screamed into pillows to keep from losing my mind. She would offer to do the laundry, for example, and then stop in the middle of a load because she wasn't sure if she was doing it the way I wanted & just leave the stuff in a pile until I figured it out. All she did to "help" was "insist" on taking the baby for the night even when I said I didn't want her to (I really really didn't want her to).

I know I have to let her be involved, but how do I insist that she come a few days later

My 11 month old daughter refuses to eat a bottle. I have to distract her with toys, stuffed animals, etc. so she eats at least some of the bottle. She is suppose to be eating 32+ oz per day, but sometimes doesn't clear 20+.
She does eat 3 meals per day, but I've even tried cutting out the meals for her to eat the bottle, but it doesn't work. I try to feed her a bottle before every meal, she eats some but almost never a full one.
Lately it's been worse, barely ANYTHING. She sleeps through the night so we only have during the day to try and make her eat. I can't find any information on this on the internet. Someone please help!!!

My daughter will happily drink juice and water all day long but the moment I hand her a sippy cup of milk, she turns her nose up at it. I know that calcium intake is very important especially at her age, and I do try to provide calcium-rich foods as much as I can (yogurt, cottage cheese, etc.), as well as calcium-supplemented juices, but I know that they're no substitute for good ol' milk. I don't want to flavor the milk with chocolate or anything like that b/c that will just train her to an even bigger sweet tooth and she'd likely NEVER drink plain milk. She was breastfed for her first year, not formula-fed. I still nurse once a day, and I know she prefers that to cow's milk. But it's time completely wean her and I'm just concerned that she is not getting adequate calcium. Suggestions? Thanks. :)

My friend told me that when you change the wet diaper, there is no need to use a wipe, only for poopy ones, because of something about the urine; what is this all about?

....If the baby is a boy....and What if we can't agree?

BTW, our 2 sons *are* circumcised, but I've since changed my mind and reget doing it to them. My younger son, 3 years old, actually has stenosis and needs that and some adhesions on his penis repaired after having been circumcised.

My son cries and cries and when I go to soothe him it doesn't work and I feel horrible, but once he's in his dad's arms he stops. It makes me feel so bad. I feel like my son doesn't want me near him. The only time he's quiet with me is when he's feeding. Do you think he's over dosed on mom since he was in there the full 9 months? What is it?

My 3 mo old son has basically stopped eating.

It started gradually about 1-1/2 mo ago. I mentioned it at the 2mo check-up. He is only wetting 1 - 2 diapers a day. The nurse I spoke with didn't think it was a big deal. The lactation consultant says there is nothing physically wrong - that it is an emotional problem. The pediatrician is out of town until Thursday.

His birth weight was 7lb 2oz. At 2mo he was 10lb 7oz. He is almost 4 mo old and 11lb 5oz.

He is visibily thinner than a week ago.

I have no problem with using formula and have been doing that. He isn't taking bottles anymore.

All he wants to do is suck on his thumb and when we try to feed him he has a kicking, screaming angry fit.

Me & my husband have three daughters, we are pregnant with a fourth baby, we will find out the sex next month. My main thing is I just hope the baby is healthy, but I really really want a little boy this time, Is that horrible? I will be happy no matter what & would love another daughter just the same but this is going to be our last child & I would love the chance to see how different raising a son would be & to have my mama's boy, lol. we got three daddy's girls & I just want to have a boy so bad. Anyone been in a similar experience? Do we have a greater chance of still having a girl or is it 50-50?

My 6 month old daughter has eczema on her face. She cannot fall asleep because it itches and she tries to scratch it. Does anyone have any suggestions? I do not want to start giving her benedryl right now. We currently moisturize her skin with a eucerin plus olive oil cream.

Has anyone weened their babies off of formula early? I gave one of my twin daughters 2% (very little) and she loves it! How soon is to soon? I know you're not supposed to give milk to babies under 1 year of age but I have friends have done it. What do you all think? I was just thinking maybe a bottle or two a day and the rest of the bottles formula. They eat a good diet. Oh, my girls are just shy of 8months.

Alright we aren't pregnant yet, but my husband and I were discussing our baby plans and he is firmly set on me not breastfeeding. Him nor his brother were breastfed (his mom just pumped) and that is what he wants me to do. He feels there is no point to breastfeeding...we will have to use bottles eventually so why not start from the beginning.
I on the other hand have never even considered the possibility of not breastfeeding. So what is your opinion? Does he have a point and which have you found easier? More importantly which is better for my future children? Thank you!

Okay, im prego with my 1st child. I am about 4months. I plan on trying to breastfeed my child because breastmilk outweighs formula by the millions. All the benifits of breastfeeding or so good and I want to give my baby the chance to recive that, but some girls my age will not breastfeed. When I ask them they look@me like they saw a ghost! THey are not sick or anything where they cant breastfeed. They just wont do it. Its disgusting to them! WHy is that? Let me know because I would only do it just so the baby can get the out of this world nurtirents of breastmilk.

I just need some opinions, as I am still not sure how to feel about circumcising my son. He is 10 months old now. He was not circumcised to begin with because he was a preemie born 6 weeks early. I am at the point now, should I put him through that? It doesn't seem to bother him at all, and I always make sure his parts are clean. His father is Muslim and says he prefers him to be, but is not pushing it. I am not religious, so I don't have a religious reason to do it. I am just not sure. Your opinions, please? Thanks!

I have a nine week old. I've been back to work since she was six weeks. I was nursing exclusively for the first six weeks and now I've been trying to pump while I'm at work. I still nurse her when I'm at home (mornings, evenings, nights, days off, etc). While at work I try to pump once in the morning, once during lunch, and twice after (I work 9-9). When my baby eats from the bottle she eats about four ounces. When she nurses she seems satisfied. However, when I pump at work I'm only usually able to get about two ounces from both breasts. I'm pumping 10-15 minutes per breast. My breasts pump milk for the first two or three minutes then nothing else comes out except a few drops here and there.

Is this normal? Is my milk supply lowering? I'm worried because I can't keep up with her needs if I can only pump 2 ounces from both breasts when she eats 4 ounces every time she takes the bottle. I use a manual Medela pump that came with the electric pump I rented from the Hospital.
