Has anyone weened their babies off of formula early? I gave one of my twin daughters 2% (very little) and she loves it! How soon is to soon? I know you're not supposed to give milk to babies under 1 year of age but I have friends have done it. What do you all think? I was just thinking maybe a bottle or two a day and the rest of the bottles formula. They eat a good diet. Oh, my girls are just shy of 8months.

I believe that babies younger than a year old need all the vitamins and nutrients that a formula has and that home milk can't provide.

Until one year, an infants digestive system is not developed enough to digest milk. The problems caused may not be significant right now, but it will put the child at risk later for more allergies. Also, the nutrients and iron of milk are far too few for an infant under one year. Please talk to a physician. It is quite likely that a baby would like the taste of the regular milk, but it is not wise to give it at this age. Also, full fat milk is the best option once the child reaches age one. They need the fat for proper development.

There are not enough nutrients in milk for an 8 month old and around a year old in when babies digestive systems are able to break down cow's milk. That's why they say not to give milk to babies younger than 1.

Talk to your pediatrician.
There are reasons for these guidlines.
The fact that milk protein is very very difficult for a young digestive tract would be why they say to delay milk until one year.

I'm sure my 9 month old son would love to eat chocolate cake everyday...it doesn't mean I'm going to let him have it.

I don't know about you...but, I love my friends...but I sure as heck wouldn't give my child something just because someone else did it...unless that friend just happens to be a pediatrician or a nutritionist.
I have friends that have given their six month olds soda...that's idiotic and I certainly wouldn't do that either.

Talk to your ped...that's why you pay him the big bucks.

**FYI - Destiny - Before there was formula...there was breastmilk. That's how people used to feed their babies. I've never seen a baby human nursing on cow udders. Before we had formula, we fed our babies as nature intended...with our breasts...not cows breasts or formula. JMO

some childern can not drink formula. so therefore drs. used to recomend giving them vitaimin D its better than 2% and if she likes 2% she`ll like vitamin D as well. btw she will pry put on a couple of lbs at 1st as well. and you can always mix it with the formula and split it as she only gets it at night or in the am.

Not a good idea at all. My Mother in Law is a Pediatrican and my wife and I also have a seven month old. Until babies reach one year old their stomachs can not handle Cows Milk. It is not wise to do anything without your Dr. telling you to do so. Check out this website. http://www.aafp.org/afp/20061101/1533ph.html

You aren't suppose to give babies under 1 year milk because of allergies. I would speak to your doctor about it.

THEY NEED ALL THE NUTRITION THEY CAN GET FROM THE FORMULA. THEY ARE NOT TO HAVE WHOLE MILK UNTILL THEY ARE 1 YEAR OF AGE. YOUR DOCTOR SHOULD HAVE TOLD YOU THIS. ALSO THEY SHOULD DRINK WHOLE MILK SO THEY GET ALL THE EXTRAS INSTEAD OF 2% MILK. I WOULD TALK TO YOUR DOCTOR ABOUT THIS.
