My friend told me that when you change the wet diaper, there is no need to use a wipe, only for poopy ones, because of something about the urine; what is this all about?

it's ok in a pinch to not use a wipe if it's urine only in the diaper, but not to make it a habit. Urine ordinarily is sterile. However, baby will smell and could become irritated if urine is routinely left on. Some babies are more suseptible than others to skin conditions, so it depends on the baby.

Urine, as it exits the body, is sterile. As long as the baby is clean otherwise, there should be no real need to wipe the baby before changing the diaper. I think the fact that we wipe babies between diapers is more for removing the wetness and drying the baby off more than for a real cleanliness factor.

If your baby is essentially dry when you change him and he doesn't have any pooh in his diaper, then there really isn't a need to get the wipes out.

I'm incontinent and I wear diapers 24 / 7 and when I change my wet diaper, I don't always use a wipe to clean myself off, if I'm relatively dry, I just put a fresh diaper on. I have no problems with odor or anything else by using this practice while changing myself.

Good luck.

The uric acid in urine is one of the main causes of diaper rash, so you should wipe. I mean if you miss the odd one while you are in a rush it isn't the end of the world or anything but it is better to use a wipe.

If your child has sensitive skin use plain water to wipe them. I think pampers makes a water only kind of wipe or you can get "paper cloth" (which is thicker and won't break apart like most paper towels) at most drugstores but particularly in any that specialize in geriatric care. Of course some people use cloth wipes as well. If you dissolve a small amount of baking soda in the water it will further reduce the acid from urine because baking soda is alkaline.

Some babies break out from wipes, and the ones with alcohol can do more harm than good. If you can't use a wipe, use a wet warm paper towel with a little bit of baby soap or oil on it. then use a barrier cream. I would never even think of leaving the wetness on babies skin, sterile or not.

p.s. I make my own wipes so I know what is in them...never had a problem with breakouts.

Good Luck

You should always wash the diaper area even if the child is only wet. When Urine breaks down it form acids and provides nutrients tor fungus and bacteria. That is a leading cause of diaper rash and other problems.

Your friend is incorrect. You should always clean your baby's bottom wheter it's wet or poopy. In addition to wiping with a wipe, I always apply some type of barrier (diaper cream) to protect the baby's bottom from rashes. Most cost effective is petroleoum jelly.

Urine is urine...would you not wipe yours? I use a hyypoallergenic protective cleasing milk and rinse with water for pipi or caca.
