I'm an another cloth diaper user- mostly because I'm cheap and lazy. I've spent about $500 to diaper one child from newborn to potty, and I don't have to spend a dime on more diapers for my younger child. I never have to go to the store for more diapers, since they're never more than a load of wash away.
The major drawback to cloth diapers is that you can go overboard buying cute ones if you're not careful.

I have had four kids and used cloth with all of them. Disposables are SO expensive. We did use a disposable when away from home. I did not think it was all that much work, even when I had two in diapers at once. Actually, I do more laundry now when they are teens than when they were in diapers.

I'm going to give you some benefits of cloth diapers.
-Reduces diaper rash greatly
-Encourages early potty training naturally, as a child feels wet.
-Better for the environment, yes they use water, but better than taking 500 years to decompose in a landfill.
-Saves you thousands of dollars.
-Can be used again for another child, or be sold.
-There aren't chemicals in cloth diapers that sit very close to babies skin (if not on babies skin), we do not understand the long term results of these gels.
-There are not chemical bleachers used that is harmful for the environment
A few tips
-use a piece of fleece inside to catch poop, it falls right off into the toilet and will not stain the diaper
-hand to dry outside whenever possible, kills any bacteria and whitens the cloth
-soak in tee tree oil, baking soda, vinegar and if you like lanvender to keep diapers fresh smelling and anti-bacterial before laundry day
-Do not spend cash on wipes, use cotton wool and warm water or a warm wet cloth (washs with diapers, very easy).
There are so many other benefits and tips, just google to find out more. I thought maybe an opinion from a cloth advocate was in need regardless.
Good luck on your choice!
*thousands of dollars to save....*

Regular diapers are far less messy and annoying than cloth diapers. But cloth diapers will save you money and the environment. In some states they are going to start taxing people who use disposable diapers because they do not decompose.

We've used cloth with all three of our children.
Benefits :
- cheaper
- healthier for the baby
- no unknown chemicals
- longer lasting (as in, can be reused with the next child)
- cuter
- less smelly
- less leaks
Cons :
- people making snide comments
I don't see any benefit to disposable diapers anymore.

Unless you are a die-hard environmentalist I'd go with disposable. Babies go through diapers at an astonishing rate and keeping up with the wash of cloth diapers would be close to impossible, especially if you both work. There are diaper services out there, but then you've got the issue of the smell while you're storing them for weekly pick-up.
If you're feeling guilty about the environmental impact donate some money to an organization that plants trees or buy some environmental credits as something to "cancel out" the impact of using disposables.
Another factor is convenience, when out and about, shopping, restaurants, friends houses, traveling by car, airplane, etc. you're going to be changing a lot of diapers. Do you want to carry the dirty smelly diapers with you until you get a chance to wash them? What if you don't have access to a washing machine? You may not want to throw away the cloth diapers, but it might be the only livable option.
One other factor is just the ease of using the disposables. When you have a baby, time becomes a scarce commodity, and anything that allows you to spend more time with your new child is extremely important.
I'm a huge environmentalist and give to close to a dozen environmental organizations annually, but even for me this was not a tough decision.
If you do decide to go the cloth route, I salute you. It's nothing we ever could have done over an extended period of time.

Hello:
I always preferred disposable diapers because there was no hassle to them just put them on the baby, and when the baby was wet or poopy, change them and throw the stinky diaper away. There are many choices in disposable diapers out on the market even diapers for children who are sensitive to chemicals that regular brands use in their diapers.
Supposedly cloth diapers are more environmentally safe and better than disposable diapers but with cloth diapers if your baby has the flu,or has a major blowout,it will get all over their clothes and all over you too! Disposable diapers may be a little bit more expensive, but they are worth it for the convenience and they are so easy to use too,no washing tons of dirty diapers in your washing machine every day, ewww!
My choice of diapers was always either Huggies or Pampers because I always got coupons for them and Wal-Mart was the cheapest place to get them! ;-)

wow, it used to be, regular or disposable, now its the other way round, I am too old!!
I always used cloth at home and disposable for trips, but they make them nicer now and better for the skin if changed when they should be, as cloth diapers require rubber/plastic pants over them, trapping the ammonia

cloth diapers are good when your child is allergic to regular diapers, but if he/she is not, avoid the aggravation of having to wash them and not to mention having to constantly check if your kid is soiled, cause it will just soak right through the clothes. Just go with regular diapers and save yourself a headache. Plus you could hurt your baby with the diaper pins, that happened to my nephew and the poor thing was in pain for days!
