Newborn & Baby - March 2007

My baby is 5 weeks old and I would like to get some contraception, but I don't want to take birth control pills as I got pregnant on them. Is there anything else besides patch i could do while breastfeeding? I can't do condoms, because I am alergic to latex... My husband would be fine with the pull out method, but I am not sure if it is safe enough and don't want get pregnant again right away.

Please consider answering this question for a science fair project :) We are trying to determine which brand of diapers is the most absorbent and we wanted to get the opinions of others out there before and even after we complete our expirement.

My baby goes to sleep very easily at bed time, like in 1 minute. Then without fail 1/2 hour later she's up crying, I don't know what to do.
She is 5 months old and goes to bed around 6:30.
We've tried later bedtime but this has worked the best then this started happening.

I have heard that you build antibodies in your breastmilk so your nursing baby won't get sick. So....if my older daughter gets a nasty cough then I'm building the antibodies in my breastmilk so my younger daughter doesn't get sick....
So technically could I give my older daughter my breastmilk, which has the antibodies in it to help her get over her cough?
I'm not going to do it, just curious to know if that would work.
Thanks

Has anyone made their own candy wrappers for favors for wedding or shower gifts? What program did you use? I am not interested in buying wrappers off line.

Did you use a template?

He's 10wks old and we've moved from Texas(very humid) to Montana(very dry). Now his scalp is dry, and flakey. Not like the way cradle cap is described, it's not yellow and thick, just the normal flakey scalp, and he does have some hair too!!! I've tried lotion but that just makes his hair greasy and doesn't seem to help much! Thanks!!!!

At what age is it ok to let a breastfed baby sleep through the night? I know that when they are newborn, they need to be awakened. When can that stop?

I posted a question last week b/c my 1 month old who is breastfed had not had a bowel movement in a few days. On day 5 of the no-bowel movement she saw her pediatrician. He felt for a mass to see if she was constipated. He said he couldn't feel anything. She is gaining weight and has enough wet diapers, so he didn't seem concerned. However, now it has been 8 days since she last went. It's making me so nervous. She is however, very gassy and has been letting lots of very stinky toots - but no poop! My mother-in-law says this just means my breast milk is really pure and there's not a lot of waste left over. Could this be true? I'm so worried about her - and what about the stinky gas?

I need your unbiased opinions. I am in a disagreement with my husband's family about how much activity my daugher can handle. She is now 3 months old, but we have been fighting about it since the day I brought her home. (EVERYONE was there by the way.) In their (grandparents, aunts, cousins, great-grandparents) opinion babies cannot be over talked to or over handled. They do not think it is a problem to pass her around 20 people, and have 3-5 people standing around talking a taking pictures. Having her away from her home and going from a sports event, to shopping, to dinner, etc in one day isn't too much.

I DO. I feel like a little of it is great, but not all at once. People can hold her and talk to her, but they need to watch her cues for over-stimulation. A calm baby is a happy baby. And happy babies grow up to be calm and stable people.

I love this family, and need to resolve this. Please shoot it to me straight. Give me resources about over-stimulation. Thanks!!

My daughter thinks she is being paranoid because she lost her other daughter almost a year ago because of complications of having a hypoplastic left heart. They did all of the pre delivery tests( echocardiogram and such). She took her to the doctor this morning and she wasn't blue anymore and he checked her over and said everything was fine and if she did it again it wasn't anything to worry about
