Here's the scoop on baby lotions.
Equate (Walmart label), Target and Walgreens are made by gerber wish contains more water.
Babies R Us (Specially for Baby), and CVS's are the only brands in the market that they are made by Johnson & Johnson and it cost 1/2 the price.

RE:
Is generic baby lotion as good as Johnsons?
I was wondering if the quality of equate baby lotion is the same as Johnson and Johnson.

I've done quite a bit of research on baby care products and learned that many contain ingredients such as fragrance and mineral oil, the molecular structure of which is too large to penetrate the pores of skin, sitting on the top layer like saran wrap. These products cause irritation and get wiped off over time giving little to no benefit but rather a temporary feeling of softness. Baby's skin is very sensitive. They need pure, safe, water based products with the proper ingredients. Arbonne has a great baby care line that is botanically-based and pH correct, pediatrician and dermatologist tested, non-sensitizing, non-irritating, and formulated without nut oils. They are formulated with all natural ingredients like oat flour which is an emollient and an emulsifier. It’s highly absorbent and hypoallergenic. Oat flour helps to soothe and soften dry, itchy and sensitive skin. If you're open to trying a free sample, I'll be happy to send you one.

It's all the same...I prefer Johnsons though because I have a big pump bottle of it! Equate anything is just as good as the name brand in everything and many dollars cheaper. I will 9 times out of 10 get the equate brand of anything!

I don't feel it is. I am ALWAYS willing to give the store brands/generic/Suave types a chance, but with lotion I have found these to be inferior. They are thin and runny and don't moisturize beyond the 2 seconds it takes to apply.

Just make sure that there is no harsh ingredients on it and it is a mild type of lotion and your baby is not producing any irritations or rashes because of the baby lotion.

How is his skin without using the lotion? Try going without it for a while and see how his skin does as he may not need it. If he does get dry, then try using a product without scent and especially without 'essential oils'. The essentials oils, such as lavender, tea tree, and peppermint can be quite caustic/irritating for skin.

Does his skin get red after you put it on? It may burn his skin. Try the oatmeal based natural lotions and if he still doesn't like it he may just not like the stimulation. Is he colicky? I remember my daughter always being so irritated with anything I did when she was colicky. I hope he gets past this. Good luck.
