Beautiful! (Despite looking like they're not "done" yet.)

Well i was pretty upset because i wasnt told what babies looked like as newborns after birth. I did know that their skull/head bone structure might be a little elongated from the push down the canal and that they may be blue when they come out before they breath their first breath. But that was all i knew.
My son was born 9wks ago and i went into a state of panic when his feet and hands went blue. He also had pink marks above his eyes, on his forehead, a mark on his foot and one of the nape of his neck. Noone told me anything. I had to ask all the questions....as for the blue feet and hands this is normal. In newborns their circulation isnt mature and takes a few days to go to normal. The circulation usually improves if they move around a fair bit. The marks on his face and feet, including behind his neck are known as "stork marks". They are also natural and just fade with time.
Now i know this, i do know what to expect next time.

There's a good chance that the baby will have a cone-shaped head, smushed looking face, and just not all that cute. My son was born fairly quickly and came out looking like he was a few weeks old. My daughter was born very very fast, and was only 4 1/2 lbs, and looked like one of the dying creatures in the movie Cocoon. Her arms and legs looked like deflated balloons and her neck was very wiry.
But within a few days the babies will be the cutest thing ever...at least until you look at the pictures a few years later and wonder "how did I think they were so cute, they still looked a little funny" :-)

No matter how you describe what a newborn baby might look like to 1st time parents it is going to be the last thing they think about when they see their little one for the very first time. Personally I dont even remember what my son looked like when he was first born I was just to excited to hold him and look into his eyes.

im 19 and had my 1st almost 2months ago...he's gorgeous at first he wasnt all that attractive covered in the stuff from ur tummy and a lil red althought he had no blemishes or marks like alot of babies get but then my labour was a breeze, after a cpl of hours he looked normal the redness on his skin was gone but he wasnt ugly and he didnt freak me out and im pretty shallow!
anywat his body freaked out he was only 6.2lbs so he looked like a skinned rabbit! but most of the time parents a blind to their children all they see is how beautiful they are

Depends on the infant. I know they try to "prepare" you in those pre-birth classes that your child will most likely have an alien head.
Our daughter (who is 2 now) came out with a perfectly round, beautiful head. All the nurses were staring at her like she'd just dropped out of space or something because her head WASN'T alien-shaped. Didn't surprise my mom, though - all four of us (myself being the oldest) came out with round heads, and my nephew did as well! She never heard anything about us coming out with round heads until she came to visit my daughter and I in the hospital. The nurses just wouldn't stop commenting and it ALMOST made her want to scream. *grin*
She DID come out weird looking - but that's just from being in the womb all that time. They clean them off pretty quickly. Just beware of the head thing! :)

ET from the movie is the first thing I think of when I see one. Or an 85 year old man having a bad day.

My daughter came out perfect, no cone head, nothing. She was beautiful. She was so cute and cuddly when I first saw her. They look like a baby, what do you think they look like?

my first 3 babies looked just fine except a little overly red....but my youngest got stuck in the birth canal.....and he came out the back of his head first instead of the top....so instead of a conehead his head tapered in the back, and his bottom jaw was crooked because of having his chin tucked against his chest......he also had alot of swelling around his eyes.....and bruising on top of his head...by the time he was a week old he was just fine except the jaw and its slowly healing (hes 4 weeks old now) but when he was born i didnt even notice any of that.....actually it was several hours after before i really studied him and found the defects in him, and at that point i was already hopelessly in love =)

I was actually surprised at how cute my baby was. I expected him to be wrinkly, puff and red but he wasn't.
