I work in a hospital and a crack addicted mom is happy b/c her premature baby weighed 3lb 13oz at birth. She was overjoyed when talking to one of her family members and stated "He weighs 3 pounds, 19 ounces." Should I have stepped in and told her that the baby is actually 4lbs, 3oz? I need help.

My 11 month old has a cold and a fever, and has seen the doctor. She said it is a virus running it's course, and the ears are not infected. She recommended to alternate Tylenol and Motrin. I have been doing that, and the fever is controlled, but he is sleeping so fitfully - waking every 2 minutes and never getting comfortable. Could these meds make babies less able to sleep? I understand that having a cold will do that, too, but this lack of sleep seems a little more dramatic than normal cold symptoms. He is seeing the doc again tommorow.

My baby is 4 days old and is my wife and I's first child so we are not sure exactly what we should be expecting.

I read that newborns will sleep 17 to 20 hours a day. My baby seems to want to sleep his hours during the day and stay up from midnight to 6 or 7am.

So I guess I have 2 questions. Is this normal? Is there anything I can do to start changing the baby's schedule?

Is there something I can do to make my breast milk dry up quicker. I started leaking bad 4 days after having had my baby, I was beginning to think I didn't have any milk then I woke up 4 days after the birth of my baby girl with huge, engorged painful boobs and my shirt was all wet along the front. As soon as I removed my bra, they started to leak. So, I've been using nursing pads since then and was just wondering how long it takes for the milk to dry up - when can I safely stop using the nursing pads?

I am a first time mom and my son is 6 weeks old. He has been extremely gassy ever since we brought him home from the hospital. It has gotten to the point where he wakes himself up because he is "pushing" so hard and he grunts and groans so loud in his sleep. He seems to be in so much pain! My husband and I get about 2 hours of sleep a night because the baby is so uncomfortable that he wakes us up crying. Though he is gassy all the time, he seems to be the most uncomfortable at night. I have monitored my diet closely (I am breastfeeding and supplementing with formula) and also tried to use several different brands of soy and lactose free formulas per my dr's suggestion. I have tried Mylicon and Little Tummies gas relief drops as well. Nothing is working! The baby is not constipated so I am not sure why he is pushing so hard. He cries when he passes gas as well, which is very frequently. Please help!

i have been breast feeding my baby for 3 months now and i am happy with the outcome. lately whenever she drinks she seemed frustrated that there is not enough milk for her. whenever i pump (which is in the morning) i only manage to get out around 50ml so I have this feeling that my milk is decreasing. i was wondering whether i should supplement by giving her a bottle of formula once a day, just to help her along. she has around 4 to 5 wet/poopy diapers a day and seems very content on the whole, except when she wants to drink and keeps pulling at my nipple cause it seems she wants more. I would like to know whether my milk supply will be effected if i give her formula once a day. thanks

I have heard a lot of different things about getting babies to sleep. I have heard the cry it out method which I tried last night and I hated it! My son falls alseep while drinking his bedtime bottle which I know they say is bad, but we cant get him to stay awake through it. He doesnt fall asleep with every bottle, just the bedtime one unless he is fed in the afternon and hasnt taken a nap yet. He is 7 months old. He likes his pacifier, and when he wakes up in the night I am prone to stick the pacifier back in his mouth so that he will go right back to sleep. The problem is when I am frantically searching for the pacifier in the dark and cannot find it he becomes so awake that he doesnt want to go back to sleep. He does this sometimes at 4:45am! He always used to sleep all night without a peep but now recently he wakes up a lot at night. I know he is teething and have tried tylenl before bed but it doesnt help. I know he shouldnt rely on the pacifier as a sleep crutch but

My son is 7 months and I have been giving him baby food since he was 5 months and all of a sudden he won't eat it any more. I want to know why, He is now sitting in a highchair to eat instead of his bouncy chair could that be it? I don't know what to do and the doctor doesn't have any idea why he won;'t eat the foods he loved.

Our son had to go under lights for two days in hospital. He came home yesterday. He's breastfed. He's still very sleepy. We get it hard to get him to feed.He feeds on and off for 14 minutes every 3 hours .Have you had a similar experience? How long will it take to clear up completly. The hospital said he'll be ok but we worry about him.does he need future tests to make sure it's completly cleared up?

Hi,

My question is: If I breastfeed, does my baby still need water as well? Or will she get all she needs through my milk?

I bottle fed my son, but I'd like to breast feed this time, and I just wanted to know whether breastfed babies need water as well as milk.

Thanks.
