My 11 month old has a cold and a fever, and has seen the doctor. She said it is a virus running it's course, and the ears are not infected. She recommended to alternate Tylenol and Motrin. I have been doing that, and the fever is controlled, but he is sleeping so fitfully - waking every 2 minutes and never getting comfortable. Could these meds make babies less able to sleep? I understand that having a cold will do that, too, but this lack of sleep seems a little more dramatic than normal cold symptoms. He is seeing the doc again tommorow.

Read the fine print on the label. Most children's meds. say "may cause excitability in small children." My son tends get a burst of energy after having a teaspoon of Motrin, then hes knocked out for about 45 minutes later.

How high was the fever? That much medication in such a little body is bound to cause problems!

Oh, also, i heard that tylenol can cause seizures when given for fevers? (this was from a nurse)

I would drop at least one, if not both of the medications and just give cool baths and wet washcloths.

Its not likely but not impossible. Most pain killers tend to knock babies and toddlers out. BUt everyones system reacts differently to them.

I would think its more likely that he doesnt feel well, or cant breathe well.

Some medicines can make people hyper, so I guess it is possible.
