Start Rice Cereal at 4 months. (1 - 8 Tablespoons perpared cereal per day with spoon)
Baby shouldnt get more the 1/4 Cup perfeeding of Cereal.
4 - 6 months: 5 to 8 oz Formula/Breastmilk perfeeding
5 to 6 Feedings a day
Babies under 6 months (healthy ones) Dont usually DO NOT need water bottles.
Also start introducing small amounts of Stage 1 baby food. Preferably a vegitable, otherwise baby will get attatched to the sweetness of fruits and then not eat veggies later. When introducing veggies and fruit for the first time besure to only do a "TESTING" that means only couple spoonfuls, then wait a couple days to see if there is any reaction. Follow that pattern 2-3 times before fully introducing a food.
Each Small Jar has about 2 1/2 oz (5 Tb spoons)
Medium Jars: 4 oz(8 Tb spoons)
Large Jars: 6 oz (12 Tb sppons
NEVER Introduce 2 foods at once...because if baby has a BAD reaction you wont know which food it was from!
Also is the time to give baby small amounts of watered down 100% Juice..Gerber or Juciey Juice. White Grape Juice and APPLE are the first and BEST to give. Watered the Juice down AT LEAST 50/50 with water. 60/40 is Plenty good.(60 water/40 Juice).
When baby is 7 months they should be on a regular routine for feedings. Example times also listed below.
Early Morning(6am): Breast Milk/Formula
Mid Morning(9am): Cereal and Fruit or Fruit Juice
Noon(12): Meat or Cooked Egg Yolk(no whites they are too fatty). Fruit or Veggie, Breast Milk/Formula
Mid AfterNoon(3pm): Breast Milk or Formula
Supper(6pm): Cereal, Fruit or Veggie, And Fruit Juice
Bedtime(9pm): Breast Milk or Formula

When the baby is 4-6 months old. NO SOONER! Experts say you should wait AS LONG AS POSSIBLE. So closer to 6 months (but not longer than 7 mos or they say it is harder to get them to like it). But mostly it is when they show you they are ready. Signs of readiness include good head stability, sitting up well when supported, closing their mouth around a spoon, acting interested in what you are eating, and being able to swallow without pushing too much food out. This one is important as babies have a reflex to push out with their tongues (it is nature's safety method) up to a certian developemental stage. Oh - also - try to stay away from juices. If you just feel that you MUST give juice, please water it down. It is just too sugary - even with natural sugars. READ LABLES on baby food. They should have just the food and water (example carrots, water) listed. Some foods, like bananas have an additive to help the friut not brown.

Before six months, the baby's pancreas is not ready to break down solid foods. If you choose to feed solids before 6 months, you run the risk of the pancreas working in overtime and therefore creating an insulin deficiency...this is why so many children these days are being diagnosed with Type II diabetes.

I started at 4 months because my son was ready. He took to the spoon well, but the rice made him constipated. I switched to oatmeal (which is a natural laxative) and he has been great.

I started my second child before he was 4 months old but I watched for signs like biting down instead of swallowing. He did just find with the cereal. If it is your first I would wait until he is 4 months old at least. That is what I did for my first child who is almost 2 years old.

Actually your doctor won't recommended it till they are old enough to hold up their neck on their own. Usually about 6 months of age. If baby is still hungry after a bottle give him another. Usually they aren't really hungry they just need to suck on something. Try a binky after a bottle. If they cry like they are still hungry then make another 2 ounces of formula.

You should not give a baby solids till 4 months old. Thier tummies aren't developed enough to digest solids before 4 months. It can give them tummy problems and you don't want them to scream all the time.
