At 6 months (when I started solids) I gave my baby steamed apple mashed w a fork, mashed babana, steamed pumpkin, pear & sweet potato. I added couscous to the veggies after a few days and then started making porrige for brekkie for her with some mashed banana in it..

Now she is 8 months and I feed basically whatever I eat (with the usual omissions of salt, eggs, nuts etc etc) mushed up for her.

Until 9 months old, 3 small meals a day is fine along with breast milk/formula (this is where the nutrition comes from and where they get their energy from) as normal.

I THINK the guidelines later on are at least 2 serves fruits a day and 4 or 5 serves of veggies?? (I am not sure what a standard serve consists of for babies though!). Hope this was of some help.

At six months old, feed him the really tiny jars of baby food, start with bananas as they will not cause any sort of allergies, stick with that for a long time. A little cereal is okay in the morning too. Feed him three times a day and maybe a couple snacks if you think he's hungry, just a few spoons full at first and just sort of see how much he wants as you continue and he gets used to eating.

My baby girl is 6 months old. She eats a tub of starter 1 applesauce or a fruit. She mostly eats a fruit at breakfast lunch and dinner. At dinner I try to stick in a veggie. 1/2 a small tub or 1/2 a small jar. Sometimes I give her like a tablespoon of rice cereal for breakfast also and mix about 1/2 a small tub of fruit. I feed her rice cereal once a day. I recently read in a baby magazine to give them meals for breakfast and dinner. Feed your baby what you feel comfy doing. Just start with stage 1 foods til about 8 months. Then stage 2 til 10 months. You get the picture.

I have a 7month old and I feed him solids twice a day. I give him as much breastmilk as he wants in the am followed by aprox. 2tbs of rice cereal mixed with fruit (about 1/2 a stage one jar) and a little breast milk to thin it. Around dinner time I do the same except with a veggie (without the bottle first because he usually takes one an hour before that) and then he gets his bedtime bottle. My pediatrician said to keep him on stage one foods until he is sitting unassisted and can raise his arms over his head. Whatever you do just be sure to offer breastmilk/formula FIRST since that is their main sorce of nutrition- offer foods second.
*sometimes I don't add the cereal to his fruits and veggies- then I just give him the whole jar. (It's easier to do that if you are not at home for a feeding)

At six months old your baby needs fruits (1st foods baby food) and vegetables. Also make sure you're not feeding the baby to much of the solids, because baby's primary source of nutrition wil still be formula or breast milk.

By six months, baby should be used to cereal. You can feed baby the cereal in the morning, or right before an afternoon nap. I usually fed my babies the baby food when the rest of the family had supper.

Also, be sure to wait a week in between new foods, so if baby has allergies it will be easier to figure out which food caused the allergy.

Whatever he needs 3-5 times a day in small portions, ajust it to him, all babies vary. You can mash up anything. Carrot is always a favourite! Get him used to everything, but go easy on sweet fruits or he'll get a sweet tooth:p Don't bother buying jarred baby food, its a waste of money and it has additives and preservatives, just mash it takes a second! Keep breatfeeding for a while to if you still are, (i know its a pain) the longeru go, the better his immune system!xx

My little man has also been eating baby food since 4 mos. Get the book "super Baby Food". Gr8 ideas, gr8 information, gr8 recipes. Any way, he eats the "Super Baby porridge"(ground oatmeal/brown rice) with applesauce or pears.(pears are "hypo-allergenic" & gr8 source of vitamins & fiber) He eats sweet potatoes, squash & loves peas. He loves Yobaby organic yogurt w/ fruit & cereal. He gets about 2 tablespoons of the porridge w/fruit for breakfast and for lunch he gets 1/2 jar (med sz) fruit 1/2 jar (med sz) veggies for lunch & again for dinner. He drinks about 24 oz of formula through out the day with all of that. He wants to try everything we have at the table. He thinks he's a big kid like his brothers!! :)

My daughter is 6 1/2 mo old and here is what she eats.
-6oz bottle
-4tbsp baby cereal and jar of fruit with 4oz bottle
-6oz bottle
-jar of fruit and a jar of vegtables
-6oz bottle
-4tbsp baby cereal and jar of vegtables with a 4oz bottle
depending on the day she may take another bottle usually a 4oz one before bed.
She has her lower 2 teeth popping out so she sits in the high chair and has zwieback toast or a biter biscuit both made by Gerber once or twice a day. She pretty much just sucks on them and makes a mess but she likes it.

I hope this helps
