Newborn & Baby - March 2007

Every time I leave his sight, going to the door, or into the kitchen or bathroom he flips out, stamping his feet and screaming, not just crying. Otherwise he's quite happy. We are very effectionate and have lots of time together. I don't encourage this behaviour at all, but want to get him through this. His parents say he's not like this at home, but they live in a house that is completely open floor plan and he can see them wherever he is on the main floor. How can I handle this to teach him I'm not leaving him anywhere, just moving about my house?

and moves A LOT! When my husband is sitting on the couch and has her on his lap, she'll literally try to jump off straight towards the floor! She's a little monkey...

He was crying like something was hurting him or something. I turned the light on and saw that he was still asleep. He was crying in his sleep. My husband woke him up gently and he stopped crying and fell back asleep. Is this normal? Was he having a bad dream at this young of age? I am really worried.

My baby is only 7days old, and has a white tongue. Is this thrush?
If so what are some home remedies that would be safe for him to do. Also I think it may have already gotten into my one breast, home remedies for that too. Thanks!

My 7-month-old has never been a good napper. She sleeps well at night, but during the day would not sleep more than 30 minutes for the first 3 or 4 months. We just recently got her to the point where she will take longer naps so she's not cranky when she wakes up. But here's the problem. She's daddy's little girl, and her daddy deployed to Iraq a week ago. Since then, she's back to her old habits of 30-minute naps. She wakes up still yawning and rubbing her eyes, so I know she needs to sleep longer, but nothing that I do seems to help her sleep! I can't wait six months for her daddy to come home to get her to take a nap! Any suggestions?

Just wondering if I should save my money on Dreft or splurge for baby's sake.

It's expensive! $14 some for a large, 64 load container of this stuff. I splurged the $14 this time for my baby that is due in June, but I'm wondering if it's all that necessary. My doctor likes it, but I also read in "Baby Bargains" that it's no better than washing detergent that's labled "fragrence free, dye free, etc, " unless you have a REALLY sensitive baby. What about the other knock off's of Dreft; the detergent that's labled "baby?"

Thanks!

My child is biracial. At the hospital the doctor was pointing out biological differences between biracial babies and other babies. I was out of it, so I couldn't really hear what she was saying. Does anybody know what special biological differences biracial babies have besides the obvious?

I'm exactly 39 weeks today with my 3rd. For the past 2 or 3 days I've been extremely tired and irritable...not really sleepy, but very tired. This never happened with my other two. This is going to sound like a stupid and redundant question, but could this be a sign that I am close to labor?

We did all that we could to try to make her stop. She is an adult and cannot be watched constantly. She was not allowed to smoke her at the house but....
I hope the baby is o.k. and it seems to be in the ultrasounds etc.
Will the baby go thru withdrawal symptoms? Please answer only if you really know the answer thru experience. I am terrified.

My son's not quite 3 weeks old, and he just does not want to sleep, ever! Everyone tells me that I need to sleep when he sleeps, but I'm so exhausted because he doesn't sleep so I don't either!

Everything I've found has been about babies who only nap when someone's holding them, or similar things...but my baby hardly sleeps at all! I've tried holding him, carrying him in a sling/baby bjorn, rocking, swinging, nursing, pacifiers, even the car...nothing puts him to sleep if he's not already letting me know he's tired, and even then it's tough to get him to sleep.

When he does sleep it's "cat naps" 20 minutes at a time, 3 -4 times a day, and then by night time he might sleep for an hour and a half (if I'm lucky), he'll do this 3 or 4 times (waking for feedings of course) before he decides he's awake for the day.

He doesn't act over-tired, he's SO alert during the day, he doesn't cry more than other babies, but I know sleep is important for my growing boy...WHAT SHOULD I DO?

My newborn is having latching on problems, and I am not producing enough milk. The only thing that I am finding on the internet is related to breast feeding. Is actual breast feeding the only way to relieve the pain and engorgment?

My son just turned 1 in March and now I would like to start weaning him from breastfeeding... he eats other foods and drinks from bottle or sippy cup but just doesn't want to stop breastfeeding, I also don't know what to do with his seperation anxiety... he will crawl around the whole house after me crying as if I were doing sumthing to him, and also I would like for him to sleep alone in his crib and through the entire night... up until he was 6mos. he slept the whole night and in his crib but now.......what do I do? I need all this to put him in daycare so that I can work.... and where can I find a good, clean, inexpensive daycare center in San Bernardino that isn't really someone working out of their house???
