He was crying like something was hurting him or something. I turned the light on and saw that he was still asleep. He was crying in his sleep. My husband woke him up gently and he stopped crying and fell back asleep. Is this normal? Was he having a bad dream at this young of age? I am really worried.

Yes they do have dreams at that age. I went through that with my son, around 6 months of age. He would be screaming with real tears, and i would run in there, and he would be asleep crying. I actually called my pediatrician about it because that seems so young to be having nightmares, and his cry made me feel so bad for him. It happened like 3 times in one week, and then just every so often. He is now almost three, and still will have a bad dream every once in a while. I hope this helps.

Maybe he was having a bad dream. Don't be worried. If he stopped crying quickly and didn't seem like there was anything wrong then he is fine. If he kept crying and woke himself up and didn't go back to sleep, then you should worry.

Usually when my babies cry suddenly in their sleep, it's because of teething pains. Your baby is just the right age for it, too. Check with your doctor to see if you should give your baby something (Tylenol, Motrin, Orajel) before bedtime on particularly rough nights.

Of course, "experts" do say that babies dream, too, so if you don't think your baby is teething (watch for drooling, fingers and everything else in the mouth, especially stinky stools, low-grade fever, crankiness, etc), it could just have been a bad dream.

He's ok :)
Your intuition is right, he was more than likely just having a bad dream.. or maybe he was uncomfortable and woke up a little as he was moving around but fell right back to sleep..

Babies have dreams also. But it could have also been gas or just a reflex. As long as the little one is sleeping fine now and breathing fine, I would not worry, but being a mother, I know you will. I would feel the same. Good luck.

My 6 month old does this all the time, probably just a bad dream. I have no idea what kind of bad dream they could have...maybe some kind of pacifier shortage or something :-)

this happens to my 4 month old all the time. i feel so sad when i see him cry like that. i quickly go and comfort him by hugging him, kissing him and talking to him reassuring him that mommy is here...nothing to worry and he just clings on to me feeling secure.
