Lots of walking and squatting to bring baby down and put pressure on your cervix.

Lots of sex. Semen ripens the cervix and orgasm can bring on contractions which can turn into labor.

Use evening primrose oil capsules as vaginal suppositories. It won't put you in labor, but it will help to ripen your cervix.

Have you had an internal exam? Is your cervix changing yet?

How sure are you about your due date?

I was in the same position you were...finally went in to the doctors when I was 11 days over due (it was a Friday). The doctor did the non-stress test...I'm sure you've had one by now...and an internal exam. He said I wasn't any further along than I was a few weeks ago (1cm), but he had "a hunch" that I would go into labor on my own that weekend. Just in case, we scheduled a sonogram for Monday morning, and he said after the sonogram we'd discuss being induced either Monday night or Tuesday morning. Needless to say all weekend I was a wreck. I walked, I made the hubby drive the bumpiest roads, we had sex three times (big mistake, I was so sore later!!!), I did everything I'd heard of, nothing was working for me. Sunday afternoon I gave in, I was going to be induced there was nothing I could do about it, so I sat down and started crying. I hadn't been crying for five minutes before my contractions started. My little guy hung in there as long as he possibly could, but he didn't like the idea of being induced any more than I did.

If you do have to be induced, just remember that it means there's no more question about when your sweet little baby is coming...now you know! Not that it worked for me, but it seemed like reasonable advice when I got it, even though I couldn't take it...I'll pass it on all the same.

I don't know why I was even so scared about being induced in the first place, it can make labors much shorter (boy that would've been nice) why is that so scary?

Had my first baby almost 3 weeks ago, February 19th, 2007.

Good luck & congrats...just try to relax, okay? You'll wish you had afterwards!

It is hard to say I was two weeks over due with my son. They planned to induce me at 2 1/2 weeks over but he came at 2 on his own. I never had contractions until the day before. No braxton hicks at all.

I was almost three weeks over due with my son before induction. First babies take longer, and since my son was measuring small on the ultrasound, they just assumed my due date was wrong. I never had contractions I could feel until 36 hours into the induction. Apparently, my son was content to stay there for a while :P

Most likely, they'll do ultrasounds and non-stress tests (a kick count with a heart monitor) at your next check up. I wasn't induced until it became clear that my son was outgrowing the placenta (his movements had decreased to the point that he was failing kick counts and failed his non-stress test). If all looks good, they'll let you carry a bit longer. If not, they'll induce.

In the mean time, I suggest doing frequent kick counts, and WALK WALK WALK!! Sexual intercourse and nipple stimulation (preferably to orgasm) have also been said to jump start labor.

Good luck!! You will be holding your little one before you know it.

It depends on how healthy you are.

No one panics until you are a full two weeks over due. Then it becomes cause for concern, especially if the baby continues to get bigger.

But... due dates are just a general guide. Don't panic because it's been a week. You could still go into labor at any time, even if you haven't experienced false labor.

You'll be okay. Just relax.

Have you had a cervical exam? If you could give more info on your effacement/dilation/babys station that would be vey helpful, but the baby comes when ready anyway. These would be good things to know because the above are criteria that your doc uses to find out how ripe you are for an induction. I have went overdue with every one of mine, and went to induction twice (1/2 day short of it on another, she came just in time), so even multiple time mothers have this happen. All I can tell you is good luck and take heart...I am 38 weeks with my sixth, had a dr. appt today and no dilation no effacement, on my sixth...so it's a crapshoot to tell...

How else r u gunna get this baby out? They wont let u go over 10 days overdue as it can harm the baby. Being induced is ok. they can control your contractions by th amount of druf they give u

It's possible. I would try everything else before I took a pitocin drip, though. They can strip your membranes, and there is something called Cervadil that they insert in your vagina to help you efface and dilate. If you don't want an induction, tell your doctors. There are other ways to go about it.

It will be up to your Dr. I went 2 weeks past my due date with my oldest, and we were positive about the time of conception. Keep going to your regular visits, the Dr. will monitor you closely. Good Luck!

They won't let you go past 42 weeks, because its not safe. Ask your Dr at your next appt.
