If you are not in labor, it's likely that your baby is NOT ready to be born.

Yes, there are herbal methods of kick starting labor (and believe me I know how uncomfortable late prenancy can be), but they have risks too. Castor oil can have VERY unpleasant side effects and won't work if you're not "ready to go" anyway. I might consider using to help a straggling labor, but not to start one.

Accupuncture has been known to help. Nipple stimulation (usually both nipples and for an extended period of time) can help. Sex and orgasm can also help, These methods are not risky, to my knowledge.

Evening primrose oil can be used to help the body get ready for labor. Some women even choose to insert capsules of EPO near the cervix which may soften and ripen the cervix. EPO taken orally may help too. Check out the website Ovsoft.com in the Pregnancy Support forum (or Labor and Delivery and the Everything Herbal forums). The Mothering.com website also has great forums on pregnancy and childbirth which might help w/ info on natural labor remedies.

My cousin was over due and her doctor told her to go home and have as much sex as she could. The doctor told her that would make the head drop. I have never heard of castrol oil. They also say walking works to. When my brother girlfriend was pregnant my mother made her walk around the block a couple of times.

Don't do the oil!!! I learned that one the hard way. I took 2 doses of it... it made me sick and made the baby have a BM while still inside me. Then once he was delivered he had to be given antibiotics because of the BM... they didn't want to take a chance of it causing problems to his lungs. So my advice is to just stay away from it.

Try having lots of sex, walking and more walking. I also did a lot of vacuuming. Maybe one of those activities could help kick start things. Other wise just be patient... the baby will come when it is ready :) Good luck and congrats.

Please be patient and wait because there is always a right time and place for everything. Don't do anything that may be harmful for u or ur child. Just remember that u have waited so long and u can wait for a little more time for the precious life which is inside u. Your patience will pay off and you will not regret your decision of waiting. Don't worry everything will be fine and ur wait will soon end. Congrats for the baby in advance.

I'm sorry to say this but there's nothing you can do. Even castor oil is a myth. Your body will go into labour when it's good and ready to - it's not like at 39 weeks you're overdue! I know, it's hard, uncomfortable (to put it mildly) and you just cannot wait for your baby to be in your arms. But you have to wait. Hang in there!

Well for sure you don't wanna use CASTROL oil...that goes in your cars engine, not your belly...I know you mean CASTOR oil. Have you had any cervical changes yet? Castor oil hasn't been proven to induce labor, and can in fact be dangerous to the baby and make them poop too...meconium in the amniotic fluid. Plus it may cramp you up BADLY and you don't want to be in labor pooping all over the nurses and doc...but of course it's ultimately your call...

I went 2 weeks over with 2 of my kids, and I was so over it and wanted it over. What you should do is absolutely nothing for the next week. You should sleep in the day too so you will be completely rested when you go into labor, remember, when you come home from hospital you won't be able to do that.

I used castor oil at 39 weeks and it just made me go number 2 and then 6 hours later I was in labor.

The baby will come when the time is right, and none of the old wives tales is going to help. You're closing in on the finish line, just get some rest and get yourself prepared.

BTW, all castor oil does is give you abdominal cramps and cause dehydration from all the diarrhea. So I agree, don't do it! Good luck!

Just wait it out. Its worth it. I was trying everything i could once i hit the 38 week mark. I was due 11/13/06 and went to the dr on the 16th, i was still only 1.5 cm then at 3am my water broke. My son, Damian, decided he finally wanted to comeout. just wait. after you have the baby you will miss being pregnant! Sometimes i wish i was still pregnant and Damian is now 4 months old!!!
