Here's my input on walkers:
Walkers are a thing of the past they very dangerous in many ways, they can easy tip over and pushing your little one into the floor and cause multiple injury from bruising to fractures or others injuries and even death but the main problem with walker is that is not so much the fact of the walker tipping over actually is the walker hitting dresser or chirroffes/armoire or tall furniture pieces and T.V or or other heavy object falling on top of the baby or even this furniture pieces tipping/falling on top of the him/her. That's why furniture wall straps are recommended if your furniture doesn't have this straps for the past 15 years every furniture over 8 ft has to have straps, last year in Houston between Sept '06 and December '06 they were 8 little ones killed. Excersaucer are great but now they are a thing of the past as well, but the new craze and I highly recommend are the new rainforest's jumperoo's and the Kids II-Baby Einstein Jumper they lookalike miniature Bungee Jumper and they will get allot more exercise.

Hope this Help!!!

I'm with the first poster here...the nurses in my child birth preperation class, the nurses teaching my newborn care class, the nurses at the hospital, my OB-GYN's office, & my son's pediatrician all said the same thing.

The type of "walkers" that babies can push around (like the walkers that older people use) are okay, but the walkers that they kinda sit in with their feet on the ground are the walkers that we were warned against.

Just use a search engine like Yahoo! or Google to find more info on this...there's tons of sites that will back up this claim now.

OK ready for this... i went to a second hand store and found the super-saucer, for $10 bucks!!! yep! i just took out the seat washed it and disinfected all the plastic and all or most of the toys come off so i washed the cloth ones and the others i boiled! he absolutely loves this toy! for 10bucks so do i!
I go to all the second hand stores around and once you get to know them you can get them to save things for you! They grow so fast there is no point spending all that money!
also i got one for my baby shower and i returned it to babies r us aand got him diapers!!
spend the money on things he will notice, like soft wipes, books are another thing i would really buy from a 2nd hand store because you cant really clean a book! but if you can clean it then buy it!
why your at it check out the women's cloths you will be very surprised!!
oh yeah if you ask the 2ND hand store they usually have 1/2 off days!
happy shopping

Walkers with wheels are actually considered very unsafe now. They are even banned in Canada. Check out this article: http://www.babiesonline.com/articles/pregnancy/genderoldwivestales.asp

The stationary walkers, like the Exersaucer, are awesome. My son loved his. You can find them at local child consignment stores - like Once Upon a Child for really good prices. Also, check out Ebay or Craiglist for them too. Also, if you have any friends with older kids, they may still have theirs that you can borrow. Once they start crawling, they probably won't want to spend much time in it anyway.

Good luck!

I spent 30 bucks at babies R us, it's a very plain walker compared to the ones with sounds and lights but my son loves it!! We got it for him when he was 4mo old because he loves to stand, if he wants to learn how to walk in it then we will let him......As to the other poster, it affects the motor and mental development? Whatever, your article may say that but it's highly not believable in my eyes........

Don't get a baby walker. They inhibit freedom of movement and can be extremely dangerous.

If you lived near me, I would see you ours :) Check our garage sales and resale shops. I would NOT pay full price....if you buy a cheap one, you'll get what you paid for it. Ebay might be a better choice too.

You should read this article before deciding to get a walker: http://www.webmd.com/parenting/news/20060307/baby-walker-injuries-drop

Here's just one quote from the article: "Infant walkers serve no essential purpose," Shields and Smith write. "Infant walkers do not help a child learn to walk, and, in fact, they can delay normal motor and mental development."
