My baby is only 7days old, and has a white tongue. Is this thrush?
If so what are some home remedies that would be safe for him to do. Also I think it may have already gotten into my one breast, home remedies for that too. Thanks!

I believe that I may be infected too because, it burns and hurts really bad when he feeds from my left breast, position is right, and everything...It doesn't rub off of his tongue.

If the white does NOT come off when you rub it, it is thrush. For a baby, gentian violet (i believe is what it's called) will help. It will turn baby's mouth purple. Make sure you check with ur doc before using it.
Also, to prevent the yeast from spreading to ur baby's bum, wipe it after every bowel movement with a 1 to1 solution of either lemon-water or vinegar-water. (Yeast HATE high acidity levels).

For your nipples, put the 1-1 solution on there too. Also, go get some probiotics and eat LOTS of yogurt to help get your good bacteria back.

Yes there are lots of safe home remedies. Thrush is not harmful, nor painful to the baby. It will be excruciating if you get it.

The #1 lesson add 1/3 cup vinegar to your rinse cycle, and it will kill yeast, make your clothes soft and no your clothes won't smell.

You can give acidophilus capsules (1/4 to 1/2 twice a day) to the baby. You can also just take them yourself and it will end up in your milk. Acidophilus tastes sweetish most babies love it. Grapefruit seed extract kills yeast and can be used to treat yeast more immediately. It is safe for newborns. Just rub a small amount in the mouth. These treatments are much safer than prescription medication.

As someone else said, it's more likely just leftover milk on his tongue, though if you've got an infection it's likely that he does too...the number one thing to do is to go visit your doctor (this is why family doctors are better than pediatricians, they'll treat your infection & his after one visit, so you don't have to see extra doctors and take all sorts of time to get better!).

At only 7 days, it's very unlikely that you'd have thrush honestly, but it's hard to tell you what your problem is more likely to be caused by since you didn't mention what is making you think the problem is thrush.

there aren't any RELIABLE home remedies for thrush, and if you find one that does work for you it still won't be as quick as what the doctor can do for you or your baby, so you're still better off going to the Dr's office.

The nurses at the hospital told me (just 3 weeks ago) that I should eat a cup of yogurt, cottage cheese or ....i forget what the third thing was...every day, the partially spoiled milk/yeast cultures in these foods will go far to guard you & baby against thrush (thanks for the reminder i haven't had any today!). Maybe eating these things would help get rid of an infection too, the nurses only told me it would protect against it, not cure it, so I don't know for sure...

Good luck, and I hope this helps. I'll try to remember to check back in case you add more on why you think you're infected, maybe I'll be able to help you more!

Congrats on your little bundle of joy!

Gentian Violet. You can buy it at most supermarkets and superstores, and is very inexpensive. That is what my daughter's Dr told me to get for her. It worked super quick. You just dip a q-tip in it, and put it in your baby's mouth. You can rub it around or your baby can suck on the q-tip to cover the inside of their mouth. You should put it on your nipples too, so they don't become infected, or even if they are.

A white tongue could just be leftover milk. Thrush tends to be more on the cheeks. Here's a related article: http://www.askdrsears.com/html/8/T083100.asp

Most home remedies for a disease like this don't work and can cause serious problems in the long run. Contact your family doctor or pediatrician. You will be given some sort of medication.

When my daughter got thrush, we had to put some drops in her mouth. Took care of the problem within a week.
