Newborn & Baby - December 2006

My son is 3 months old and he sleeps so much right now. Is this normal? He slept from about midnight last night until seven this morning, woke only to eat and then fell back asleep until noon today. He fell back asleep until at one, woke back up at one thirty, and then fell back asleep for a couple of hours. It's been like this for several days now. I think it started when the doctor told us to put ceral in his formula to combat reflux. My husband says that he is just growing and to let him sleep. I know this seems like a crazy worry, espescially since he was colicky, and that I should be glad he's sleeping at all... I'm just curious if this is normal.

My nephew will have his first birthday next week and has no teeth yet. He walks, babbles, plays, but no teeth. His parents keep the pacifier in his mouth as much as possible but I'm not sure if that has anything to do with it (probably not). His mom is also insistant that he stay on #2 baby food jars.

My daughter is just over 6 months and she can now turn her body around, kind of like a clockwise turn, while on her tummy. I am just curious how far off crawling may be.

tips: if U have a colicy baby,go to a herbal store ask for catnip syrup or tea, a drop of the stuff in a ounce of milk or water will make it go to sleep and pass gas.
If baby is over sucking on the ol' bottle, dust it's milk with rice cereal ,it'll give it's belly a full feeling and it will suck less.Remember a dusting not spoon full.
If always forgeting something when out,aka-nuky,blanky,extra wipes, after every trip repack you diaper bag for next trip out.
Remember ,Dr.'s knows medical stuff, you know the baby or kids, you live with them and love them so don't let a doc tell they always knows best.
If bootys wont stay on, get pretty hair bows and put on around ankles, works well with socks too, (aka-scrunchies)
If baby has no hair hardly but you want a bow in hair, take a small one ,and place white corn syrup on bow and place on head, its sticky and safe.
Cradle cap, will come out with a toothbrush and baby shampoo, rub gently.
White corn syrup in milk will help baby go to poo.

What is the right way of measuring the height of a baby? Is it head to toe or head to heels?

At my hospital, I saw the nurse measure babies strech their feet with their toes pointing out and they take that marking. That easily makes a few inches differences if measured from head to heels.

I have a neighbor who is pretty poor and she is expecting a child in May. I would like to put together a diaper bag for her, full of stuff that will come in handy like wipes, some onsies, etc. I've never had a baby so am a little overwhelmed looking at all that is available. Looking for a list of suggestions from someone who knows what a new mom could really use! :)

He wasn't there for my pregnancy or the birth. 5 months later he has decided he wants to be involved. His way of going about this is to take me to court. He is requesting joint legal custody and for me to change my sons last name. Sounds a bit arcaic (sp?) to me.

My 9 wk old son rubs his eyes with his hands all the time and also rubs his face. He does it so much that it makes his eyes and face red.He always takes his hands to his face.

I have tried putting mittens but still he does that. Any idea why he does that? Is he having any problem? What can I do to stop it?

Thanks for your responses.
