Our son is now 6 weeks old. We started breast feeding and supplementing with formula and he was eating every 4 hours. A few weeks ago, he started eating (formula - my milk supply decreased) 4 ounces and wanting to eat again 2-3 hours later. So, we got some rice cereal and started adding a tsp to his bottles.

Now, I'm a little worried because I didn't realize that we apparently started this way too early. I am going to put a stop to this ASAP, but am worried that we may have done something to harm him by starting so soon. Are food allergies the only concern I should be worried about?

5.5lbs is considered small for gestation age in a term baby, this can be a sign of MANY health problems and certainly is not normal.

"Babies born under 2.5kg (5.5 pounds) are considered
low birth weight (LBW) babies.

A healthy birth weight is very important for a good start in life. Low birth weight babies are at a high risk of experiencing health and developmental problems. They are born either preterm (less than 37 completed weeks of gestation) or small for gestational age (SGA - less than 10th percentile for gestational age) or both. When a mother is healthy, she is more likely to have a healthy baby.

Low Birth Weight Changes Everything.
LBW babies can have life-long health problems
LBW is the main reason babies die in the first year of life
In Canada, approximately 6% of all births are LBW babies. The costs to care for the immediate needs of theses babies, and to provide the long-term care and special attention that some will need throughout life are extremely high :

O.k., my baby was on my breastmilk for the 1st 5 weeks of her life exclusively, but I have since went back to work and due to stress, I am unable to pump out that much breastmilk and I am not sure if she is getting any milk when she goes to breast (which is mostly at night cuz I work during the day.) Anyways, my supply is almost gone completely. I am only pumping out like an ounce at a time and that is every 4 hours. Sometimes, I don't pump out any at all. She has basically been eating formula for the last week. When she poops, it is in the morning and it is dark forest green. I called the Dr. and they said that it could be the change in giving her more formula. My mother in law said it is usually green when baby is sick. Dr. office told me to wait another week and call if it hasn't changed. When she poops more than once in the day, it is normal color like that orangy color. When I was breast feeding, it was yellow seedy looking. My question is, has anyone out there gone through this?

My beautiful baby boy was born in September via a c-section. During the procedure he received a spiral fracture to his left humerus and a haematoma (bruising mass) to his scrotum. I am angry that this has happened and have been informed that there is no avenue to sue the doctors repsonsible as I can't prove pain and suffering because he was a newborn baby at the time these injuries occured. I am not a money grubber and do not want to sue for monetary benefit. I just want the doctor to be held accountable. It is extemely rare for a baby to sustain a fracture during and c section and it is rare for a baby to receive a bruised scrotum so I imagine it must be exceptionally rare for a baby to receive both!!! My friend is a vet and has said that they pull calves out with tractors and they don't break limbs, so how rough did the doctor have to be for this to happen??? This happened in Australia and is more of a rant than a question but feed back from anywhere is very welcome.

My milk supply is VERY LOW (I just quit taking the mini pill because of this) and I want to increase my supply. In the meantime, we've been supplementing with formula for most of his feedings.

I took a dose of this last night and without thinking about it started to breast feed him this morning (for 1-2 minutes when I remembered taking the medicine). Will this hurt him? How long does it take for this to get out of my system before it's safe to continue breast feeding him again?

My daughter who is now 8 months old was not ready for soild food for a realy LONG time. She still hardly eats but drinks 35 oz of formula. I tried reducing her formula intake but she still will not eat much. She still does not eat any type of finger food either.
Is this normal with some babies ??
Did any other moms have the same problem ?

To circumcise or not to circumcise. I'm 31weeks 2days pregnant the doctor ask me if I was thinking or wanted to circumcise my baby after he was born. I'm really not sure what is the best for him if to circumcise or not to. My mother-in-law is against it and my mother supports it. What are your thoughts about it? Do you think infant should have a circumcision? Why or why not?

I'm pregnant with my first and fully intend on breastfeeding. I'm just conerned that when I have to go back to work if the baby will have enough food to last until I get home. Can breast pumps ensure you have enough milk to get through the day? I would rather stay home the first year at least but I don't think that is going to happen. So, how does this work?

Thanks everyone who answered my other question on breastfeeding.

I really also wanted to know about engorgement/leaking milk.

My four week old baby boy feeds well (every 2 hours or so) but my breasts still get very hard and full and leak like crazy (get though about 10 breastpads a day!).

He's doing really well and has put on loads of weight - midwife says he's obviously getting enough milk, but I still seem to be making more than I need.

Does this settle down? Its going to be a messy six months if it doesn't!

i've heard various points of view on which is better for babies. i've even heard that humidifiers are a no-no, which as long as it's kept clean, then it's fine.

so, which is it....cool or warm??

thanks!

my son is 7 months and half.the fontanelle closed at 3 months.the x ray shows that suchers are opened, but doctors do not all agree about that.some see the two at the sides are slightly opened, others see the one at the back started to close.the one at the front has already closed.head size is 43 cm,which is ok for his age,but the shape is unusual, the forhead is quite pointing.the baby's development is very well.doctors say we will have to make an operation to open the skull or so.the question is,,,i don't know which doctor should makae the operation,,nuerosurgeon,or plastic surgeon,or both together with pediatric surgeon??any experience please??and if u can tell me more about it.thanks a lot.

I'm breastfeeding my four week old baby son and I hope to continue breastfeeding him until 6 months as is recommended, although almost everyone I know who breastfed gave up before then.

Anyone continue for 6 months or longer? I want some inspiration!

My little girl loves all the jarred fruits of course, but will only eat squash and sweet potatoes for veggies. I can't get her to take any greens, she's spits them right back out. Should I mix them with fruit, or what else can I do about it??

I have to go back to work in a weeks time. Can anyone assist me in a step for step guide (like a starting solids for dummies) to start my 4 month old baby boy on solids e.g. how much purity / cereal replaces how much formula ? Any tips on getting him to sleep staight through will be welcome.
