For the year 2003 the percentage of newborns circumcised in Canada was 13.9%. It is becoming less and less every year, our eyes are being opened to this as being wrong and barbaric. It's errongeous skin, is easy to keep clean just like a vagina and the already rare problems that occur in intact penis's can easily be dealt with without circumcisions. This percentage is still too high and many more need to be educated as so much ignorance has gone into the circumcsion factors and it is unnecessary and immoral to do. Most of the world does not do this unless it's US, Jew/Muslim countries. They are trying to say that is prevents std/aids but this is not true, what does work is educating and practising safe sex and knowing who your parnter is

Hi TJ:

The practice of medically-unnecessary, non-therapeutic child male circumcision has been declining for decades in Canada. Although many older Canadian males were circumcised decades ago, they are dying off. In the present day, few boys are circumcised.

Non-therapeutic circumcision of children is offensive to many Canadians. The French-speaking people generally do not favor circumcision. Male circumcision is offensive to the culture of Inuit, First Nations, and Métis populations.

The Canadian Paediatric Society (CPS) has favored genital integrity (non-circumcision) for children since 1975. The CPS says circumcision should not be routinely performed (meaning that circumcision should only be performed when needed to treat clear and present existing disease).

The fourteen Canadian health insurance plans stopped paying for non-therapeutic, medically-unnecessary circumcision a decade or more ago. Parents who want a child circumcised must pay out of pocket.

When boys in Canada are circumcised, it is usually because the father is circumcised, not because of medical need. The number of circumcised fathers is gradually declining, so the incidence of circumcision of boys is also declining. Less than 1/3 of Canadian boys are circumcised these days.

A survey of mothers carried out nearly a decade ago found that about 31 percent of boys were circumcised.

Since the practice is in a long-term decline, it is likely that the rate of circumcision is much lower today.

The rate varied from province to province but in all provinces and territories, non-circumcised foreskinned boys were in the majority. Newfoundland boys are almost never circumcised.

Yes, but not that many:
Canada: <17% overall in 1996-97, with large regional variations

In Newfoundland the rate for the last few years has been zero, although that may not count any preformed out of the medical community for religious reasons.

Its about 60% circumcised and 40% not might even be closer to 50/50 but doctor told me when my son was born. This was over 3 years ago I just read and article that says only 25% are circumcised now. I never circumcised my son my doctor was actually against it and said he was glad I chose not to. There are so many people that say it is cleaner and reduces the risk of getting HIV well if you practice safe hygeine teach them how to clean it good and teach them about safe sex I dont see the problem it is very painful and they are born with it there why take it off women dont cut anything off there bodies why should they.

I believe Canada is down to about a 9% circumcision rate among non-religious families. I read that on a website when I was reseaching circ. but I can't remember which one.
