I had the same problem with my youngest daughter. She was breast fed and refused to accept a bottle so we introduced the sippy cup early as well with the same results. The cup I found that finally worked well for her was the Nuby brand sippy cup from Wal-Mart. It has a soft rubber-type spout and a different type of stopper on the inside so that it's much easier for little ones to figure out.

I can't remember the brand now (my kids have outgrown sippy cups) but at Walmart I used to buy the ones that have slow flow and fast flow inserts for the tops. My kids went off of the bottle and started using these between 7-8 months old. The only thing I really remember is that the inserts that go in the spout are hard plastic...not the rubber clear ones. Hope this helps.

Try a soft spout cup if you haven't. They are much easier to use for a younger baby. Also, put babies FAVORITE thing in the cup and least favorite in a bottle. They figure out for the good stuff....they need the cup! We did that with out daughter and she got rid of the bottle no problem around 9 months. She drank all formula from a cup and it was fine. Plus, then at a year we took the nuk away like recommended and I didn't want both to be taken away at once and I knew the bottle would be harder. Good Luck!!

Try the NUBY ones that that starts out as a bottle and then goes to the straight up to a kinda sippy to a kinda bottle type nipple and then it works up into a sippy cup. I would try and work it up slowly and then go to it. Your 8 month old just might not want to drink out of the sippy cup...

I'm having the same problem. Does your child use a bottle for milk also? Mine does, and I've come to the conclusion that to get her to drink anything from a sippy cup I have to get rid of the bottle. So I'm weaning her off of the bottle. Anyways, I like the cups without the non drip feature. Although they mess more, its easier for the kid to get some fluids. My WIC lady recommended this kind. Good luck.

Not many babies will be able to figure out a Sippy cup instantly. It takes time! Just like it takes several attempts to teach a baby to eat solid foods. Keep offering the sippy cup every day, and let her figure it out. Its a growing experience! She will get the hang of it in her own time.

My son couldn't tip a sippie cup up so I got the type of sippie that has a straw in it so he didn't have to tip it up to drink out of it.
If your child has no trouble tipping the cup up, then just make sure it's really soft, so it's almost like the texture of a bottle nipple. It will make drinking easier.

I tried that with my kids and the same thing happened.... what I did was take the non drip plug out and hold the cup for my baby so he can learn to suck on it. When seen him learn to suck on it he learned the concept of sucking on it and did it on the cup with the plug in there. I think it would be worth a try for your baby. Good Luck!!!

I used the ones with the soft spout from Gerber.. When he was 8 months all he did what play with the cup, but I gave it to him to get used to the idea.. By the time he was a year old he was totally off his bottle and formula.. Don't push to hard she will get the hang of it soon..
