It's a holiday! Unless you will be falling down drunk (which I am assuming no since you aren't getting a sitter) then let him stay up. We are letting our daughter party with the big girls until she falls asleep and she is 15 months old. We're having a few friends over and I am pregnant again, so not drinking (it's basicly wine is all us and our friends drink, never drunk anyways). They are entitled to some fun and stuff too. Plus...okay put baby to bed at 9 pm....so they can get up at 6 am right? No thank you! Plus, who better to bring the new year in that your favorite little man (or my favorite little girl lol). Good Luck!
My opinion....people put their kids to bed early so they don't have to take care of them!

I would put it to bed as normal. That is if you plan on getting up with it in the AM. I could put my son to bed and know that he would sleep 12 hours so on days I knew I would be tired I would let him stay up an hour or two. He is 30 now and turned out fine. I don't think a few times a year will hurt the child.

It depends on so many things:-
1. Will he be happy in a noisy environment
2. Will he be happy to go to other people at the party or will he want to hang onto you all evening.
3. Will he settle down and fall asleep after being stimulated by so many people
4. Do you want him up
5 Would he be better off tucked up in bed leaving you to enjoy the evening.
6. Will people be disappointed if they turn up and he is already in bed
7. Will people be disappointed to turn up for an fun filled night to find a (possibly) tired whiny baby being passed around.
Basically it depends on what sort of party you are holding, lots of family and close friends - Keep him up. More of a wild drinking party- put him to bed.
Whichever you choose have a good night xxxx

I would put him to bed. What type of party is it? Are there going to be other children there? At 1 yr old he does not know the meaning of "new years" so it's basically pointless to keep him up anyways. I always try to keep a schedule in tact as much as possible unless it's something very important.

it depends I am a supporter of giving a baby a strict sleep schedule and my son will be in bed at the normal time even if it is a holiday. But if you really don't have a sleep schedule then you need to simply ask your self if I put him to sleep will the noise wake him/her up. and If I let him stay up will he/she be really cranky and end being on a weird sleep arangement for a week or so.

Definitely stick to his routine. If he falls asleep during the party, he'll remember that there's something going on without him, and probably keep waking up during the night, even after the party finished. Also, he'll not get much benefit from the party, it might upset him if he is tired. Have a little new years party with him and you the following day.

Babies need a schedule, or they will get fussy and will have a hard time trying to fall asleep the next time they go to bed. Besides, if you're having a great time and the baby is crying, you're going to have to take time off to put him to bed.

Yeah right, like a 1 year old is going to sleep when there is company at the house.
Can grandma watch him that night? It would give you the freedom to have a bit more fun at the party.

i would just let him fall asleep on his own. if he starts to fuss, then put him to bed, but otherwise, i'd just let him conk out wherever. a party is tough b/c he will be so into what everyone is doing and won't want to go to bed if you put him down when he's still kind of awake.

stick to routine - put him to bed if that's what you normally do. However, if it's going to be a noisy party he may not sleep very well - or you may not hear him cry if he needs yu.
he isnt old enough to appreciate staying up, so there's little to be gained from it, unless you are 'using' him at entertainment for the guests. Who would benefit from him staying up if he is tired?
