Yes, 10 lbs. is normal. I was 9 lbs, my brother was 10 something..and now we're both beanpoles.
I actually saw a baby at the hospital once who was 14 lbs (poor mom!). As long as her doctor isn't concerned, she shouldn't be either.

That was rather large! Average weight of an infant (born to a healthy mother within the normal age and weight gain range) is around 7 lbs and 10 ounces. But a women gaining too much weight, an over weight women, women who don't eat appropiately, diabetics, women with thyroid problems and history of high birth weights can all cause a woman to have a large baby. My daughter was 8 lbs 14 ounces and she was the biggest baby born that month at our hospital!
Some of those can also cause low birth weight babies too (thyroid problems or women not eating appropriatly) and things like being underweight, not gained recommended weight (for you given by your OB) and smoking can all lead to low birth weight babies (in the US it's classed as below 6.5 lbs).
GOOD LUCK!!!!

It's a big baby, but certainly still within the range for normal. Is your sister diabetic? They often have big babies. Most babies are between 7 - 9 lbs at birth weight, but can be a couple of pounds either way and still fall in the normal range. It depends a lot on how long the baby is (how tall) and whether it was a full term baby or not.
Congratulations aunty!

Depends on genetics and all that kind of stuff
I was born 10lbs 10 oz, health as can be.
almost 2 years ago gave birth to a 10lb 3 oz healthy baby boy.
These numbers are in the top percentiles for birth weights, but still very normal.

My sister had a baby that big, and it was fine. The other end of the spectrum was that my uncle was small enough to fit in a shoe box. Both ended healthy and normal adult height and weight. If the Docs think the baby is healthy, no worries.

Well, that is a bit on the large side but not unheard of. I would say that most babies are in the 6-9 lb range with some babies bieng bigger or smaller.

The average weight of a baby is from 5-8lbs, but i have known some babies to be 10 lbs, this weight is very normal and it will decrease as the baby gets older. My husband was a 10lb baby and he ended up being skinner than me, he is very small, so 10lbs is normal

Well, average is about 7 1/2 lbs..... anything bigger than 5 lbs is usually considered healthy enough to go home. Congrats on your sister's baby. It was a big one! Thats for sure!

That's a big baby, but not out of the ordinary. Anything above 5 pounds is OK as for weight. Under that might be risky.

No, that's extremely heavy for a newborn. Most ave. around 5-8 lbs. The infant can still be healthy though. Genes factor alot into the size. But if the dr. says he/she is fine on the apgar that's all that matters. She'll just haveto be more careful with his/her diet.
