I know, funny question, but think about this: Why is it when a child is under 2 years old, you have to specify everything to the second. You don't say she is almost two, you say she is 22 months. Once you hit the magic two mark, then you can say she is 2 or 2 1/2 instead of 30 months. I see a lot of people who do this, and wonder why. Is there some reason, or is it just a habbit that is passed from person to person?

If I say she is 1 1/2, my wife fixes it by saying she is 18 mo. Just curious to find the reason for this.

I went yesterday for the lower back pain I've been having. It was like he wasn't listening to anything I was saying. Told me to take tylenol and use a heating pad. I told him I had already been doing that and it didn't work, hence the dr.'s visit. Still, he sent me on my way. Nevermind I had a baby 7 wks ago, was recently treated for a uti, and had a c-section. This was my first time seeing him and now I don't know what to do. What do you think? Especially if my pain keeps increasing. Thanks

Also grilled cheese - is it just the grilled cheese that adults eat? or do i prepare it in a different method? Sorry if i'm sounding dumb...I'm still learning.

did your baby wear right after it was born. what did it wear at the hospital? did you dress it up or just normal clothes to come home in. I'm having a baby and would like to get a general idea of the type of clothing i should have for the baby to wear for the first couple of weeks. i have some of those sac outfits with the open bottom but what else should i get and what should i bring to the hospital for the baby to come home in? do i need to bring a newborn outfit and a preemie outfit to see what will fit better? what did you dress them in for the hospital picture? does the hospital put them in an outfit right after they are born or do i need one for that too? thanks for your help this is my first baby.

I know my boyfriend does NOT want a child right now, but I do not want to have an abortion. What's an easy way of going about this? As if there actually is. I am 19 and he is 21. We both have good jobs, but I always wanted to have chldren after I was married. Life doesn't always go according to plan obviously, and I know he is going to be stressed out. Help =(

Would you more likely hire a young teen babysitter (13-14yr) if they had taken the babysitting course from the Red Cross? How much would this influence your choice? Do any of you parents "require" this for your babysitters? Also, would you give RC certified babysitters a higher rate?

Please tell me how this would make an affect on how you chose a babysitter.

Thank you.

I started working on a student permit at 15. I had at least a part-time job all through highschool. I think it taught me a lot about responsibility. I can still remember the first time I got fired, what a lesson I learned! Now though, many parents I talk to are not encouraging their teens to get a job until they are out of high school. They say that they will only be young once or that they should only be concentrating on their schooling. Do you think teens should be encouraged to work?

We want to name our soon to be born son Roman James but....our last name is Wolfe...Roman Wolfe....See. His sister already goes to a really good school, and i'm not really worried about the kids at school making fun of him. but I was wondering what complete strangers would think. I know it sounds weird but just curious what people that aren't our friends will think.

My son is 11 months old. He is super hyper. He doesn't even want to eat. He struggles with me to breastfeed. It takes over 1 hour now of pure hell to get him to eat. He kicks, screams, arches to get down onto the floor and crawl. I end up having to pump 6-12X per day the extra ounce or so he leaves in there. He won't hold still to even accept a bottle. It takes him an hour sometimes to drink a bottle. We have to chase him around with it. He was on breastmilk plus 2-3 bottles of lacto-free similac daily. He will eat little things like goldfish crackers, fries, bread, etc... But he struggles eating anything else like rice cereals basically anything he has to pay attention or sit still to eat.

His father has ADD but isn't on medication for it so it runs in his family line. I am wondering if he has some form of the hyper disorder. He also cries a lot, he is very needy. We can't get him to not sleep with us. He also only sleeps about 4-6 hours a day and is up and going for the rest.

He's only a week old, and his pediatrician says everything checks out fine.
But he sometimes exhibits some of the same hand and head movements of children who are deemed mentally retarded or severely autistic.
Now, it may be that he's just "doing what babies do," and those movements may look similar because those older children simply don't move past that "infant-like" stage of development, so I'm hoping I'm just being paranoid.
But I'm wondering if anyone might know of some warning signs.
Thank you.

ok parents I need your help... My daughter will be 11 next month and we have the biggest problem with her always being in a hurry to do things. For example, not finishing her homework or chores and lying about it so she can hurry and go play. The latest big problem that we've been having a hard time with is that she is always in such a hurry that she always forgets to flush the toilet.. and she doesn't wipe herself well. We've explained to her that it only takes 2 seconds to flush the toilet and most toilets u can reach back before even taking your butt off.. We've also explained how she can get infections if she doesn't wipe well, plus the fact that I hate washing panties with poop stains in them and it makes her stink sometimes. We know it embarrasses her when we bring it up, but she is way too old for this and it's just pure laziness! Any suggestions? I've gone as far as threatening her with having to wear pull-ups like a 2yr old since that's what she's acting like.
