Sure do. If kids aren't taught how to be responsible or how to handle money how will they ever know what it feels like to work for what you have. Alot of young teenagers who aren't working think that things just come for them but they must learn or else they'll fall flat on their face once they move out. :)

I had to work when I was in high school. It sucked, but it did teach me to be more responsible for when I got out on my own. It did not affect my grades at all. Encourage them to get a part time job. If your teen is wanting to go places all the time and buy a lot of things, I think they should be earning their own money.

I started working when I was 10, picking berries in the fields to raise money for school clothes. no work, no school clothes. I came from a large and back then financially strapped family( 7 brothers). I have raised 3 kids with one 16 yr old still at home. I told each of them, that school comes first. Education is everything. I agreed to pay all expenses while in school. Even providing a vehicle and insurance, gas money to and from school and for one weekend night out with friends. But, that if they wanted to work, they could, as long as the grades didn't go down. All three made the chioce to work, and I did everything I could to make it easier for them to do so, while at the same time reminding them that school came first.
I agree that working as a teen, did make me more responsible. But my situation was different, I came from a family who's father was extremely violent and abusive., I left home when I was 16, finished highschool on my own, worked full time, lived in a studio apartment and owned my own car. I wen on to enjoy a great career, but didn't get to finish my college for many many years. I know what value is placed on education and what doors it opens for our kids. So, I'd have to say, education first in this day and age.

I think Its great to teach resposibilaty. its a great steppin stone for growing up and learning the real value of a dollar. but.... school comes first, as long as they can keep their grades up and dont get too many hours I think its great. yes I also beleive that when your young you also need fun time too. after you gratuate, there wont be much time for that so do it while you can. My son worked since he was 14 I feel it made him a very responsible man, hes now 19 and going to a tec school . hes working very hard because he knows how important it is to have a good paying job. Good luck and be well rounded. remember, school comes irst. thats going to determine what kind of job youll get when your older.

I think that teens should be encourage to get a job. I do not think that they should be working 40 hours while going to high school but a part time job, I believe, is benificial. It teaches responsibility, money management, time management and opens up many doors of opportunity. You also meet new people, make new friends. After shcool, it is impressive to a prospective employer that you could balance school and work.

Yes I think they should work. It teaches the value of material things, budgeting their money, and respect for the things they work for. It is also a good opportunity to guide them as parents on the rights, wrongs, and mishaps that come along with these responsibilities. A parent just needs to be sure that their work is not interfering with their grades and that the student is taking on too much of a work load that they cannot handle.

Yes, I believe teenagers should work, it gives them their first taste of the adult world, teaches them to budget their money, buying their own clothes, being responsible for getting to work on time, the rewards of doing a good job and the consequences of doing a bad job or goofing off. I worked all throughout high school, before the laws changed, so I have been buying my own clothes since the age of 14, all the way through school, bought my own invitations, class ring, dresses, pictures, whatever I could.

If the teen is well-established in school and gets good grades, it is good to encourage him/her to get a job to learn responsibility and develop good self esteem and money management. I'd say a GPA of at least 3.2 to work.
if the teen is having trouble with school, it may be better to enroll in after school tutoring instead of getting a job.

yes because it teaches teens to have responsibilitys and yeah they will be young but why have a lazy teen in your house and than on top of that they want you to buy them things theydont need and parents end up buying them b/c thier son or daughter are too young to get a job! i will encourage my daughter to get a part time job but if her grades are slipping than i will tell her to quit!

Education IS extremely important but learning responsibility is also a very important thing. It is a skill that your teenager will need to have in order to make it in the future. A job can also teach them the value of money.
