did your baby wear right after it was born. what did it wear at the hospital? did you dress it up or just normal clothes to come home in. I'm having a baby and would like to get a general idea of the type of clothing i should have for the baby to wear for the first couple of weeks. i have some of those sac outfits with the open bottom but what else should i get and what should i bring to the hospital for the baby to come home in? do i need to bring a newborn outfit and a preemie outfit to see what will fit better? what did you dress them in for the hospital picture? does the hospital put them in an outfit right after they are born or do i need one for that too? thanks for your help this is my first baby.

My son came home in a little one-piece outfit.
Generally they put the baby in a sleep sac after they are born and that stays on during your hospital stay (unless you want to change them, but there really isn't a reason you have to). When you are ready to leave you put them in your outfit and get their picture taken.
My sons coming home outfit was 0-7 lbs and still way too big for him (he was 7 lbs 13 oz!). If I was doing it again I would take a preemie outfit and a newborn one just incase one doesn't fit.
The first couple weeks my son was in rompers/sleep 'n plays. It was just easier to pull one of those on and zip or button it up. I had him in the winter, but if you are having your baby in the summer, i'd say just onesies and maybe a pair of soft pants would be fine.
I had a lot of sleep gowns and they were perfect for him to sleep him. I just put one of those on him and a pair of socks and it made late night diaper changes a breeze!
If I were you I would just get a lot of jumpers, sleep sacs, and onesies and a couple cute outfits. I wouldn't go overboard on the cutesie outfits though because at that age they grow VERY fast and don't usually like being dressed up in frilly things.
& CONGRATS!

The hospital put my nieces and nephew in a diaper and stocking cap and wrapped them in a blanket. Coming-home clothes would be according to the weather.
I recommend sleepers, gowns and onesies almost all the time for the first several months. Tiny versions of adult clothes don't hang right anyway, and may be uncomfortable for a baby---stiff denim, or scratchy fabric, or collars that turn up when they should be down. Plus they'll get outgrown in a flash. Onesies don't ride up or come untucked the way T-shirts will.
For special occasions, like church, skip any kind of outfit (except maybe a family heirloom) that needs ironing, starching or other extra work. You will be glad you did. Small decorative bibs look cute with special outfits and keep baby from drooling formula or (later) food that might stain, or from chewing on the outfit. (Mother's milk doesn't stain the way formula does.) As the baby grows, you'll find that the largest bib is the best bib at mealtime, and if tomatoes are involved, removing all clothing is even better. : ) But the little bibs are great between meals. During teething they keep the baby's clothing from getting uncomfortably wet with saliva.
Good luck !

My son was born in the winter so he wore the footed pajamas with a onesie underneath for about the first two months of life. You are changing their diapers so much that you want clothes that are easy to get off and on. Plus we went through about 2-4 outfits a day, due to spit-up or diaper blow-outs. Dress your baby for the weather. If it is hot, they just need onesies or one piece short outfits. As far as the hospital, my son was in a T-shirt provided by the hospital and diaper during our stay. He was always pretty much swaddled in a blanket the whole time too. My niece was in cute little outfits provided by the hospital where she was born. When you take his picture at the hospital and when he comes home, put him in whatever you want (keeping in mind the weather). Carter's has so many cute newborn clothes.

Our hospital had clothes for the baby to wear while he was there. We didn't put him into our own clothes until the day he left. My baby was 8 lbs 7 ounces so the premie clothes wouldn't fit him. We just had a few newborn outfits packed for him and decided at the last minute what we wanted him dressed in for his pics and ride home. Otherwise he will be wearing mostly onesies for the first month(s) as we've found so far.
Since i had a c-section we were there for a few days. They wouldn't let us dress him in anything different from the clothes they provided.

Babies pretty well live in pajamas the first few months. Don't go wasting all this money on a bunch of cute little jeans outfits because they'll end up not getting worn. Sleepers and onesies are the way to go with a newborn. Most of the hospitals now days do naked pics or just in their diaper.

You want to find the easiest things to put on them since learning to dress a newborn can be tricky! Also all of the other answers are correct. You have to do what you want, it's your baby. In the hospital they will have the baby in a T-shirt and diaper. This is so the doctors and nurses can observe and check on the baby without having to remove a bunch of clothes. THis also allows the baby to sleep while the doctors are doing this. There will be plenty of time to dress up your baby if you want but do remember that you are doing the laundry!

Take whatever clothes to the hospital you want. You can dress the baby however you want. I took my favorite outfit to the hospital to have pics taken in. The hospital only put onsies on my children and I hated them. Most babies wear newborn clothes, not preemie.

I would recommend taking a couple of warm sleepers to the hospital. When I had my son the nurses asked me if I had any socks for his feet or a footed sleeper. Its really good for warming him up since they cant regulate their temp that great yet, and it is so cold in those hospitals. Also, little onesie t shirts and I loved those gowns that are open on the bottom...so easy to change dirties. I have my bag packed already and I tried to remember what I needed the first time. We are having a c-section Monday the 30th for our newest baby. Hope this helps!

Thathospital will have something for right away. I just brought a onesie, hat, socks and recieveing blanket. I had early release so I only needed one change of clothes.
Bring your own camera, opt for rooming-in and skip the hospital photos. I got much better pictures and they were so cheap.
My baby was wearing a white onesie, was wrapped in a hospital blanket with a turquoise stripe and the hat the a volunteer had knitted was turquoise so it's a really good photo.

I would def. only get comfortable stuff for baby. The hospital will or should provide clothes while the infant and you are in their care. For the coming home outfit I brought my son a newborn sized pj suit....it basically depends on size of baby. maybe you could bring both premi and n/born.
