Go ask your mom about periods and having babies. She will tell you everything you need to know. I bet you're really curious about it now she's having a baby.

Good luck with everything - it'll be great having a new baby in the house!

A young woman's period usually begins between the ages of 11-16. Sometimes earlier or later. Periods usually occur every 28-32 days, but may occur in shorter or longer cycles. Pregnacy and breastfeeding interrupt these cycles. Diet, weight, genetic makeup and other things effect menstrual cycles, too.

Pregnancy occurs when an egg is released from the ovaries and is met by sperm. This can happen at any time during the cycle, but is most common between days 12-16. Pregnacy can occur in the absence of the period. The book "Taking Charge of Your Fertility" is a good book. You could probably get it at the library.

Not having a period is a sometimes a sign of infertility. On the other hand, women who are pregnant temporarily lose their period, and some women who still get their periods can't conceive children. So it all depends!
