We have having a home birth, just so you know, and she told me to ask this question on here..... Our midwife is on her way, but she'll be like an hour before she gets here! The nearest hospital is 45 minutes away.. We arent callin an ambulance because so far, all is well! My wife is telling me the baby is coming, and what should I do now?
THIS IS NOT A FAKE THING! HELP!?

How long has she been having the contractions? Women will have the urge to push, but this doesn't mean it's time to push yet, it could just be pressure. Take a look down there and see if you can see anything, if you can then you need to get 911 or your midwife on the phone

Check to see if you can see the baby's head. If you can, call your midwife. She can walk you through it. If you can't get ahold of her, call 911. They'll walk you through it too.

Once your wife starts pushing, all you have to do is catch. Literally. Have her push to get the head out, but only little pushes so that she won't tear. Take a short break once the head is out. Then one more good push for the rest of the body. Suction the mouth and nose of the baby, then lay it on your wifes chest. The umbilical cord can stay attached. Don't worry about that right away. Someone should be there by then to help you with the rest. Best of luck!

Call the doctor or midwife for instructions. Does the midwife have a cell phone #? I think you should call 911 if you can't get ahold of her doctor and they will give you instructions on cutting the cord, examining the baby, assuring that the cord isn't wrapped around the neck, ect. You definitely need to call someone right now for instructions. A 911 answerer is trained to walk you through delivery. Call, if a problem arrises you will regret it the rest of your life if you don't.

Wash your hands, get lots of clean towels, and check to see if the baby's head is crowning. If not, you have time. Massage her vagina-like between where the baby's head comes out and her anus. That will help keep her from tearing. If the baby comes before help arrives, have her hold her legs back, or squat. Tell her to push down. If she lays on her back, put up a mirror-being able to see the baby's head helps give you that extra push to keep going when you are tired of pushing. When the baby's head is halfway out, have her stop-massage her perineal area again, and have her SLOWLY push the rest of the baby's head out. This should greatly aid in preventing tearing. Good luck and I hope your midwife gets there soon!!!

PS-Get 911 on the phone when it is time for her to push. They are trained to walk you through delivering a baby!

She'll know if she needs to push, trust me. its a very strong urge. I think that if she feels like she needs to you should help her along with that. It can take a while for the baby to move all the way down the birth canal, so you should have time before the midwife gets there.
Good luck!

I had a baby that was born in the car so I know a little about what I'm talking about. Have her pant and not push when the baby is being born. Make sure he is breathing OK. Massage her lower abdomen if she is bleeding. Don't worry about the cord; it can be cut later. When the baby seems to be breathing fine, let him nurse. Mine was born hungry. Wrap the newborn in a blanket to keep him warm.
Has she had the baby yet? I hope all is going well. The one I had in the car was just fine.

Um you should call an ambulance! If her contractions are that close together you better get to the hospital immediatly! And instead of asking a bunch of people who arent doctors for advice, you should be asking her doctor these questions! This is very important. Good luck with everything.
