I've read of some military people receiving these for meritorious service but not a lot of explanation about where they're from and how they're made, designed, etc.

My sister enlisted in the Air Force. She was told by her recruiter over a month ago that she would be called in a couple of days and they would tell her her job title and where she would be stationed, then would start basic training at the start of Oct. No call yet, and we are all starting to get worried. Could they have found some dirt in her backgroud, and changed their mind about letting her enlist? Is this just typical of the military to drag things on longer than they said? She does have a drug history and some consumption tickets and no drivers linscense b/c of it but she is still driving. They just told her to keep mum about it. I don't know if she really told them about her history, or if she just said she disclosed her history, because she has a track record of dishonesty and I just have no idea when she is telling the truth. Someone please clue me in on the process and typical timeline for things after you enlist. At what point are background checks done?

I came across this term doing research for a paper I'm unsure of it's meaning. I think it has to do retention(or re-enlistment numbers) but I'm not positive. Thank you.

Hi! My fiancee is joining the USCG and we plan on getting married in 2 months or so (not having a big wedding so it doesnt matter). I was wanting to know when the benefits kick in for both us (when we are married). Do they start when he signs up at MEPS (i think that is what it is called, its a weekend physical basically) or when he goes to bootcamp? Or after?
Also, when do the housing benefits (such as allowances) kick in?

Thank you all so much!

I've just HAD it with these idiots!! They leave me stunned at their incompetence on a regular basis!! How hard is it to run a medical clinic?!?! Civilians do it every single day!!

This is what they did to me today: I had a referral to go see a civilian Neurologist, because I had a brain tumor removed 3 years ago, and all of a sudden, something is going wrong again (I'm in EXCRUTIATING pain). The neurologist gave me a prescription for an MRI. So, I called the clinic, and asked them what I needed to do with it. They said "just drop it off at the front desk where you sign in for your appointments. Then call back in a few day". So I did exactly that.

Well, I just called them, and guess what!!!! Apparently, people aren’t even supposed to drop prescriptions off at the front desk, they are supposed to go to the Radiology clinic!!!

Now we have Osama holed up and inaccessible in Pakistan and we sit back and offer rewards while Musharraf negotiates with the sheiks who are hiding him; and we have our allies the Kurds attacking our allies the Turks and neither the US military nor the Iraqi government is willing or able to stop them.

Doesn't this mean that Turkey has the right to invade Iraqi Kurdistan?

Cheney and Bush are talking about it. Would we need to reinstate the draft? I'm hoping that Congress will stand in their way and prevent another mistake. Condi Rice is supposed to negotiate and be our diplomat, but diplomacy doesn't satisfy the "Decider".

It is the near future. A crisis between Pakistan and India is growing into a war. The use of a small scale nuclear device (nuclear tipped artillery shell) has caused concerns across the globe. However many nations are not ready to get involved in such a situation in fear of a full scale nuclear war between the two nations.

The President agrees to send a RRF (Rapid Response Force) into the area, since the military is stretched so badely at the time (iraq, afghanistan) but is unwilling (yet) to get more involved.

A small unit of marines is in India but is not able to get to the border because India does not want them to get involved right now. They will be stuck a good distance from the fighting.

Meanwhile (and this is where the story really takes place), a traitor Russian General has just made a deal with China for some very advanced technology torpedoes. Code name "Turtle" they are undetectable to sonar.

China gets the torpedoes and launches a surprise attack against the US fleet

I am thinking about doing ROTC throughout college--and hoping for a career field in intelligence.
When I get out of the AF, I would like a government job with the Pentagon, or Department of State, etc., (I know going through AF does not automatically guarantee me a job anywhere--but it could possibly)
I know someone who was an intelligence officer and she said that I have to be very specific on what type of intelligence work I want to do, IF I want a governement job when I get out. She said, for example, it would be pointless to do intelligence where I am just working with planes and different types of aircraft. She said I'd need to do counter terrorism, defense, etc.,

She also mentioned that as an officer in the AF, you give orders instead of doing--most of the time, if not, then all of the time. What I wondered is if anyone has had ANY experience with ROTC (particularly intelligence--and if they knew anything about working in counter terrorism)?
