My sister enlisted in the Air Force. She was told by her recruiter over a month ago that she would be called in a couple of days and they would tell her her job title and where she would be stationed, then would start basic training at the start of Oct. No call yet, and we are all starting to get worried. Could they have found some dirt in her backgroud, and changed their mind about letting her enlist? Is this just typical of the military to drag things on longer than they said? She does have a drug history and some consumption tickets and no drivers linscense b/c of it but she is still driving. They just told her to keep mum about it. I don't know if she really told them about her history, or if she just said she disclosed her history, because she has a track record of dishonesty and I just have no idea when she is telling the truth. Someone please clue me in on the process and typical timeline for things after you enlist. At what point are background checks done?

What's MEPS?

First off, they are probably running a background check on her, for her security clearance. If she has done drugs, they will keep her from coming in. The recruiter might be fighting for her to get in, but more than likely, her case is under review, and they will let her know.
Did she go to MEPS? Or did she just talk and do paperwork with a recruiter? If she hasn't gone to MEPS, then she probably was denied. The recruiter should let her know. She should call her recruiter and ask them what the deal is.

Depending on the type of clearance she needs, the checks could take over a year.

Air Force Enlistment Process

1. Just 3% of the Air Force is stationed in Japan So the best way to increase your chances, is to volunteer for an extended long tour to Japan on your assignment preference form That would mean you would spend your entire first enlistment in Japan after basic and tech school on a 4 year enlistment 2. You have to enlist for 8 years, either 4 or 6 years on active duty - there are no 2 or 3 year enlistments 3. if the squadron your assigned to deploys, then you deploy, squadrons assigned overseas deploy just like everyone else.

Well first the enlistment process begins with when you go to the Military Entrance Processing Center. Once your there, you would give a drug test, basic medical checkup, and fingerprints for criminal background investigation. I suggest your sister call the US Air Force Recruiter for more information on her application. The only way she would be caught with a drug history is if she ever got charged with it, because some things you can keep to yourself and never get caught. I don't know about speeding tickets, i think in most cases they would give a waiver for it. I myself am trying to get into the US Air Force, but i'm doing 1 yr in college and then i am going to enlist. I wish your sister good luck on her enlistment process.. well if she doesn't get in the US Air Force they have 2 yrs programs at Community Colleges that can guarantee her a job with a 50k salary such as (Physical Therapy Assistant, an LPN Program, a Paramedic Program, or an Occupational Therapy Assistant Program. there is still hope if she doesn't get that job in the US Air Force.......

After completion of US Air Force Basic Training,
she will receive her assignment orders and then depending on the assignment, she will enter AIT
(Advanced Individual Training) and upon completion, she will report to her permanent
duty station. The background check on her will
reveal any civil criminal activity on her part.

she will know when she goes to MEPS for her Pre Screen and to sign her contract. her Contract will have her ship date on it.

has she been in contact with her recruiter? she can't just sit around waiting for them to call her, she needs to be proactive and keep on him. shows initiative.
