I am a single homeowner, active duty navy, I will be cross-rating and going to an "A" school in another state for two months. Will my BAH stop when i go to that school, or will they give me BAH and put me in the barracks? Just wondering so I can figure out whether I need to rent/sell my home.

the school is at the end of my enlistment so after i finish my enlistment they will extend me for the school and then i will reenlist after completion and crossrate. Then from there will determine where i will be stationed.

Depend on whether you are PCSing or not. If you are going TAD, then no your BAH will not stop. If you PCS to "A" School, then yes your BAH will stop.

Mrsjvb has it right. You have two options here: 1. Keep paying rent --- Keep your BAH. 2. Break your lease (which you should be able to do without penalty as long as you got a military clause in your lease) -- and lose BAH. Be VERY VERY careful here. I've sent too many sailors to NJP and even courts-martial for exactly the situation that you could find yourself in if you break your lease but do not report it to your Personnel Office. If it's found that you are not paying rent anywhere yet still receiving BAH... you'd be in a world of trouble. At any rate, hope this helped... Good luck on deployment! Edit: Same applies for you in a squadron. If you keep your lease, you'll keep your BAH.

if you are TAD your BAH will not stop, you'll have to pay to live in the barracks tho, like a little rent... depending on the base you're attending A school on. Its sort of like being a 'geo-bachelor'. To be sure, you should ask your detailer, your LCPO, or someone at the A school PSD.

you can't have both. If they give you Barracks, you forfeit BAH. If you keep BAH, you lose out on being able to stay in the barracks for free. In fact you may not be allowed to stay in Barracks at all.

Basically it depends on how your orders are written.. if they list you as TAD, you may score and keep current BAH as well as rate Per Diem to cover expenses while at your new A school. If they list is a school in transit, you could be SOL.
