A neighbor complained to the city about water flooding his yard, the city constructed something that has now made the water drain onto my property and flood it. When I asked them to take care of that, they replied there wasn't enough money in the budget to take care of it. I have expensive trees and other plants in my garden, several hundreds of dollars worth that are now ruined and I will not be able to set up a garden this year if this flooding continues. How can I legally take care of this? I'm familiar with the statutes and have been researching myself, but I just can't find the right lead. Any tips, suggestions or leads in the right direction will be much appreciated.

What are the potential consequences that a judge can face as a result from them administrating a case in which they are bias?

In the past few months, I have become interested in the sex offender issue. What has struck me is all the studies and statistics point to adults in a child's life (parents, step parents, relatives, babysitters, coaches, ministers and priests, teachers, etc.) are overwhelmingly and statistically responsible for child sexual abuse and abduction in the US, rather than the rare "stranger danger" situation so hyped and promoted. Yet whenever the media covers this issue, especially the sensationalistic coverage, it focuses on the stranger cases and rarely if ever discusses the familial abuse. I've come to the conclusion this is done for two reasons: the media is seeking circulation and ratings and to hype familial abuse is not sexy; and two, people reject the idea of familial abuse, preferring to believe stranger danger is more prevalent because it's too horrible to believe most abuse is occurring within the family unit or closely related to the child.
Comments anyone?

A few months ago I won a judgement against my former Slumlord, in the amount of $3650.00. He has more than enough meens to pay this amount, but he has chosen to continue on in his ignorance. I went to my local courthouse and asked for what they call a payment hearing, at which he will have to bring all records of his finances, show all property he has, etc. What I asm wondering at this point is, if it might be better for me to offer him some sort of settlement offer, if he does have to come here for court, it is about 500 miles driving, plus a 3 hr ferry ride, plus hotel costs, also I will be able to recover interest, process server charges, and court filing fees. I would rather just get all of this over with, what would be a fair amount to offer him to settle, how long should I give him to pay, and how should I word my letter. Thanks for any tips!!!!!!!!!!

Okay so my son's father gave me his laptop as mothers day gift last year because my computer was (and still is by the way) falling apart. After a bitter break up he decideds he is taking it back out of anger. He has since sent me an email saying how sorry he was for taking it, and that he wanted to give it back if I still wanted it and mentioned that it was a gift for mothers day and now would be giving it to me again now as a christmas gift. Long story short he never gave it back. It was my understanding that if you give someone a gift by law you are not entitled to it back. I am thinking of going to court to get it back but I just want to make sure I am not wrong before I make an @ss of myself.

My boss approached me back a couple of months ago to have sexx with him, and I turned him down (in his words rejected him and hurt his ego). He hasnt stopped, and it gets worse if he comes back from lunch after he has been drinking. I have about 20 emails that can prove what I am saying. I also have emails telling me he had no problems with my performance. Well last friday I went in to work and he fired me that morning, and really didnt give me a reason. Everyone I know has known what was going on at my work, and now that he has fired me they are all telling me I have a great case. Does anyone think I do, I mean would it be worth my time to pursue this legally?

If all men are created equal, and nations are made of men, are all nations created equal? Should they have equal clout in world affairs? In the current system a priveleged minority of the world controls most of the power over the impoverished majority. Should the veto power be abolished?

If someone skipped last year in reporting their taxes and they are getting a refund, what penalty can they expect, if any?

Also, how should this be handled? Should they report it along with this year's or report it seperately?

Thanks.

For example, shouldn't a couple be committed enough to each other to get married before they have children?

If they aren't committed to each other than isn’t deciding to have children anyway kind of selfish?

Are children for self gratification these days?

Doesn’t a kid deserve a home where both Mom and Dad?

Aren't President Bush (set on building a NAFTA Superhighway) & Texas governor Rick Perry (who plans a Trans-Texas Corridor) both land-grabbers for the rich?! The plans seem to be to get cheap Mexican labor together with cheap Canadian natural resources for the sake of big business profits. I've read it will cause wages in the USA to PLUMMET. Also, it seems that the land in Texas (& elsewhere?!) will be snatched up, ripping it away from local families and making it available for sale or lease to others, for gas stations, hotels, diners, etc., along the route. In Texas, NO community seems to be clamoring to have this highway, and it will eat up lots of valuable farm & ranch land (-- like 4 football fields wide in some areas). (- Fumes!!)
At the borders, the plan is to only electronically inspect massive numbers of inbound trucks, it seems. Who cares about citizens' rights or the need for national security when rich politicians & business cronies make BIG $$$. Stomp it !!

alright, i know i have asked a couple questions about having children with my boyfriend. and yes thats all he is, we have been dating for, just going on 6 years. for what reason do we need a peice of paper to consider us "married" when we have been together for so long, and its just as easy to seperate if we ever do get married. it just bothered me, that 2 people that answered me past question told me to get married first...woulden't that be our decision?

Over the last decade or so I think that politics and the media have become far to involved on this topic... It's a personal choice and I don't think I, or anyone else should have any say in what a woman chooses to do with an unwanted child, escpeially with all the advances in stem cell research. Often, if a woman is forced not to terminate a baby even though she wants abort it, the child will be underpriveliged, or the mother's life will change drastically in an unfair, negative way.

Does anyone else think that Bush and any other religious protesters should just suck it up?

Especially now that Geroge W has gone and murdered hundreds in the 'War on Terror'...What a hypocrite!!
