I have changed my door locks to my house. My estranged father who no longer lives with me, but still owns the house, wants a copy. However I don't want to, as I suspect that he has been through my papers. As a software engineer I know how easy it is to steal a persons identity. However, I have no proof of this but I have grounds to suspect as he has already done so with my mothers personal papers. Also I have a gut feeling about it. So if I don't give him the key what is the worst he can do to me legally? And what would be my best defense?

of providing home sellers with hidden cameras that will record potential buyer's comments and opinions made during open houses. This way the sellers can see what people are thinking and can make improvements to help sell quicker. What does anybody think of this idea and are there any legal issues I need to be aware of?

I live in California and I always go to RITE AID for some shopping. I have a backpack on me most of the time but when I enter they always make me take it off and say "take it off or leave". Is this legal for them to do? I never steal anything. Is there something in the law books that says that they cant do this? I remember that a Safeway got sued for doing that to students from a High School. Can you please tell me where it says that in the law books.
THANKS

If you had to go to court in the United States, for some reason, do you feel that you would be given fair treatment?

A stray dog has been hanging around my house. I have placed an ad in the paper and tacked up a couple of notices (with no response). I place a little food and water out for him each day, but already have two house dogs and don't want another. He is very unnattractive, and I am afraid a shelter would just euthanize him.
I don't mind him hanging about, but wonder if I would have any legal liability should he ever bite anyone? (This is doubtful, he is pretty sweet).

For example, registering the domain name "fordsucks.com" and hosting a non-commercial anti-ford page there.

Or, alternatively, if the company name is two common english words combined, e.g. "Quick Sale Inc", would "dontquicksale.com" be an infringement of Quick Sale's trademark?

I'm trying to come up with creative ideas whereby legal services for indigent and low income people can be available. Besides legal aid places and assigned public defenders, what could be offered and how could a program like this be put into place? I'm not talking about criminal cases, but regular civil cases where a person should be able to seek legal recourse, but doesn't have the funds to hire a lawyer.

One thought I had was to allow third year law students to assist these people, pro bono, with supervision of an attorney. Another idea was to make it mandatory for firms to do a percentage of pro bono cases per year. Details, of course haven't been worked through on these ideas, but does anyone have other thoughts or ideas?

While I was studying abroad in Mexico I was raped by one of the managers at a popular club there. As a result in less than 3 days, the guy who raped me, a friend for two months was sentenced to 40 years in prison. At the time, I was really drunk because he had bought myself and my friend 3 bottles of champagne which we promptly drank. He didnt drink anything. The reason why I feel guilty is not only because he was our friend, but because I feel like I said "no" up until the point of the rape and I was so drunk and confused I could only push him off at the last minute...And only after when he tried to get me to continue he let me out of the room because I began to cry. I feel maybe because I didnt fight him hard enough while he was doing it, he didnt realize that I truly didnt want it. The whole time I was telling him no,he said, that he knew we liked each other. The thing is, it was a horrible thing, but is 40 years too much? I just feel horrible, esp. cuz he could be killed.

My sisters friend is 17 and her mom makes her do everything around the house the cleaning, cooking, taking care of her two brothers making sure they do their homework, clean their rms etc. Her mom also make her work so she doesn't have too and she goes to school (she is a senior) and if she doesn't do it her mom calls her names. Is this a form of abuse and would she be able to move out?
She does have mental and verbal abuse and has talked to the school consulor about it but because her brothers deny it the school won't do anything. She is trying to "hang in there" but she cries all the time and can't take it anymore!!

And can she do it without getting the courts involved since she is almost 18 (her birthday is in July)

When are we going to grow up about sex and prostitution? Even serial killers who do not directly target these desperately vulnerable women usually have, at the heart of their drive to kill, some form of sex-based dysfunction.

We condemn women who offer sexual gratification in return for money yet lionise women who seek out rich men to marry for money. And we sell everything from toilet cleanser to cars with sex. For those with sexual hang-ups our society must be like being an alcoholic required to work in a brewery.

Legalising prostitution is a no-brainer: the women are kept healthy and safe, do not pass on or acquire disease and get a fair share of the money that their work generates. The whole process is removed from the exploitative power of criminals. Police are freed to pursue more worthwhile targets.
