Someone once told me yes but I'm not sure. Come on they deserve it don't you think?

It depends how the jury rules it. If they jump on you, punch you in the face, grab your bag, backpack, purse, wallet, whatever, then get up, you can go after them to get your stuff back. If they're hitting you, you can hit them back. But if you get your stuff back, throw them down, and start beating 'em up, then it's not self-defense anymore, and a jury might rule in his favor.

In CA. they passed a law that you cannot sue somebody for injuries received during the commission of a felony. So people are protected there. But basically the jumper can sue you. But he would have to prove that you used beyond a reasonable means to stop the attack and apprehend him until the police took custody. That would be hard to do.

Well, people can sue people for anything. Whether they win or not is another matter.
In this instance, the only way I could see someone winning this kind of suit is if you went above and beyond the force needed to repel them. For example, if you had already knocked them out or otherwise rendered them helpless and rather than just letting the authorities deal with them, you continued to beat them or injure them.

A law suit can be filed regardless of the situation. The question is, would it be held up in a court of law that you were guilty of a crime. I think that the main issue would be, if you were able to subdue the criminal, did you continue to use "excessive" force. So, if you were to render them unconscious, did you then continue to beat them past that point? Then you might be found at fault and lose a law suit. If it was retaliation "within reason" then there would probably be no question as to who is the guilty party.

You can sue your dad, I bet, however I am guessing this is going down like LeAnne Rimes suing right here dad...beautiful messy. Next time pops buys you a auto, how approximately going for a couple of scan drives first? Now, it's going to be rough to manage the affliction of being LOLed at while you attempted to head "Wal Mart" and go back this auto. Fair adequate. If pops has you on his coverage, enlist the support of a chiropractor...and speedily!

Hell yes they deserve it, but they can still file a law suite against you. That dosent mean they will win, but you still have to get an attorney to defend yourself. You can protect your self but you have to stop when the threat is no longer present. would be nice if you could beat the snot out of the mugger 2 or 3 times but we cant.

The key to self defense is how much force is needed to stop or neutralize the attacker. If you are attacked with a weapon that will cause death or serious injury, then you can fight back with ONLY THE FORCE NECESSARY TO STOP THE ATTACKER.

In the case a person is running away, you cannot pursue or shoot them in the back.

People can always sue you, it's their right. If they win is a different matter. If it was completely self defense then they'd probably lose. If they were already down and you started beating them up because you were mad, then you'd probably get arrested and sent to jail for assault.
