What site(s) would I go to if I want to find information on labor laws in the US (specifically Texas) partaining to attendance and punctuality rules in the workplace? Does anyone know if there are governmental standards on "grace periods" as far as punctuality is concerned? Is it legal for an employer to punish an employee for being 30 seconds or 1 minute late for work?

Why do Americans today think it's fanatical to stand up and really work for your rights and for justice? It's very saddening to see my fellow Americans so careless Just because we acquired the rights, doesn't mean it wont and isn't changing.. It's so selfish, people are so "stressed" or "busy" that they just want to be involved with the events in their own lives solely, and think they're doign their part by watching the news and maybew letting out a sigh every once in awhile. Governments have a tendency to get corrupt if you let them, please tell me there still some non-self-centered compassionate Americans still out there?

Ok, I dont soley agree with outright torture. But some methods, should be able to be used in order to protect our country. To make someone uncomfortable for valuable information that will save lives, can not be automatically called torture. We cant give them treats and expect them to start telling us things. Thats not going to happen. You have heard about all these people crying out for human rights for these people, but why? Even if we do 'torture' a little and get priceless information why is that so wrong. No we will not go to the extremes other countries and our enemies do like electrocution or cutting off limbs but if making them very uncomfortable is torture then so be it. THats what we need to do. These guys dont care about the rights of innocent people so the least we should be allowed to do is make them very very uncomfortable to the point of making them talk. We can not relax on issues like this. We dont want another 9/11. Bush has done a lot to prevent another attack.

My ex-husbands new (now ex) partner told my eldest daughters some horrible things about me and my past, one of which was actually true, but not her business to tell my children.
Some of what she said, my children already knew the truth but they still questioned it. This has hurt me very deeply and makes me feel like a liar to my children, even though I've told the truth.
This woman does not know me and got her lies from my "parents". As she said it to both my children can i sue her for slander?

a teacher who is say 23 and the student is 18, then is it still illegal? i mean that really isnt much difference in age, if you figure it would be like a senior dating a freshman in high school. Maybe they need to make it a law where you have to be so old to teach, its just to taboo.

My case has already been settled my lawyer made me plead it out, but he never told me about asking for probation before judgement in the plea. I got put on probation for 3 misdeameanors and completed all the terms of my probation successfully. I go to court on Friday and the probation officer is going to ask for the case to be closed since I completed everything I needed to do, but the problem is I currently don't have a job and I'm searching for one which is really hard when they do the background check and see the misdeameanors come up. How can I ask for a modification of my sentence to probation before judgement if they are going to close the case so I can move on with my future and ahead with my life since my lawyer never informed me of this option.

Debra Lafave, who was charged with a sexual offense when she consumated a relationship with her 14-year-old student, has gained a staggering amount of sympathy as of late. She has been featured in numerous interviews, including one on the Today show, which include quesions about her motives and her feelings involving her "one-time error." These questions seem perfectly contructed to allow her to come up with sympathy-inducing answers, and it makes me sick. She has said that she is not a sex offender, but someone who just happened to commit a sex offense. She has also admitted to being bipolar (without any follow-up information), and she claims to have been raped by a teacher at age 13 (also unprovable). Now, even if it is true that she has had many hardships in her life, I don't see how that should tie into her sentence. She got off with 3 years house arrest, when most offenders would get prison time. But she hasn't taken it happily; she's still looking for sympathy!

My neighbor consistanly call Code Enforcement when our grass gets too high, and yes she measures the grass with a ruler! We have hired a lawn man, so she can;t complain anymore. NOw she has taken to calling Animal Control to report that my dogs are abused and starving. We raise great danes, and my youngest is 9 months old and weight 165 plbs. Not starving or abused. This is the 2nd time she has done it ant this is the 2nd time the officer has closed the case as being frivolous. SHe also had a friend call form 30 miles away to say that my dogs are barking and annoying her. How can she hear a dog bark 30 miles away?? Do we have enough grounds to file harrassment charges against her? What other options do you think we have? Any help???? thanks Irene
