Elw: Sugar is a drug. Caffeine is a Drug, Alcohol is a Drug, these "drugs" are not illegal. A drug is classified by the FDA as any mood altering substance.

Marijuana is illegal because it is simply socially unacceptable. It was deemed socially unacceptable back in the 1920's because at that time it was used almost exclusively by Mexicans and William Hurst (newspaper mogul of the time.) Decided that Smoking Marijuana was an Evil act done by evil people (Mexicans)

William Hurst was a Racist to th Nth degree and used his prejudice for Marijuana to mask his hatred for the mexicans.

Unfortunately to this day some people still believe the fallacies that were perpetuated by him and his Newspapers some 90 years ago. Hence it is illegal.

It is no more harmful than Alcohol.

I believe that the real reason that marijuana isn't legal, is because the oil from hemp seeds can be used to run an engine.
In fact, it was re-legalised briefly during world war II, so that the Spitfires could use hemp oil for cooling.
The ideas currently bandied about are not related to the original passage of the law, which involved inventing the name Mariujuana so that people didn't realise that it was hemp that was being made illegal.

All people should be free to decide what to do with their lives, but fascist states are about reducing people's freedoms, and this is just one example.

They say that prosac has the same or similar effects of the gateway drugs. So, we already have a drugged populous. If made legal, all the old hippies would buy a doctor to give them a prescription so they they can enjoy it. But then, they say that marijuana does not have the nauseous side effects of painkillers for some....

If only the old men with grey ponytails and young fools didn't abuse it!

You guys are all retards who have seen one to many anti-weed comercials, I DONT smoke pot because I want to get a good job and in todays world drug testing is required for all skilled positions but I am FOR legalization. Weed is less harmful than cigarettes! 1 joint has the same amount of toxins of 3 cigarettes BUT a user smokes far less cigarettes than joints and a user almost never smokes a joint by themself and at least 1/4 of it burns off as they pass it. The only Danger and side effects of smoking pot is the deteroriation of the lungs, at a slower rate than cigarettes. Look up your facts, see real studies by real non-goverment funded scientists, www.erowid.com

But weed will never be legalized because there is millions and millions tied up in fighting the drug wars!

Also, did you know weed was orginally banned in the united states because Hemp products began to seriously threaten the cotton industry which at the time was like the fuel industry or smoking industry is today, Most of the presidents/reps/and senators at the time owned cotton plantations themselves so they banned it not because of people getting high but because they were losing money, you want to make a difference in the goverment you only need one thing MONEY

Oh, the age old question.. Basicly, marijuana is illegal because the goverment tried to erradicate the counrty of mexicans when they brought their smoke to the states.

They have been lieing to us ever since on the "dangers" of this "drug"

And, yes we should be able to decide our own fate. Geroge Washington would be outraged if he knew what was going on.

The government really screwd us on this one.

Civil liberties are forgotten today, so we are all criminals unless we do what the tyrant tell us is right..

I know what's right and wrong. Not Mr. Weinie.. (yeah thats the name of the stupid motherf*cker who helped start the war on drugs)

So, I will uphold my civil liberties.. illegal or not!!

Oh Yes.
No doubt. It is somehting that our popular culture Profs revealed to us in Univ, that marijuana is no less harmful to the human body than cigaretttes, yet its illigal

**** those Right Wing elitists who think its "harmful" **** off, I have a friend who boiled the leaves as a tea and she says that her 4-yr old son has no more hacking coughs from asthma. Another gf of mine uses it as a seasoning in her turkey (not just brownies) and believe you me it tastes wonderful.

That's the power of popular culture, the gov't calls something bad therefore it is bad. And if that were a truly idiotic comment (which its not) how come the Bush admin hasn't come up with it.
That's preposterous, come to CA.

Hey i'm gonna buy some right now!!!

why would you want to do something you know is really bad for you,i can understand why people do it,but why people want to do it that's a different story a,unless you're a dealer but you would be hurting people by selling and that's wrong very wrong, alcohol people can drink and get drunk the smell in the air is not going to hurt me or any one else and it's illegal to drink and drive and it's illegal to drink in the streets, and cigarettes should also be e illegal to smoke in the streets because of the smoke in the air.

Yes. As long as it doesn't impede on other people's freedom and safety.

Unfortunately, there is a great number of people in this country who can't use anything responsibly (alcohol is a very good example) and with this in mind, why would you want to throw another log on the fire?

Yes... I find it ironic that in the US, alcohol, an addicting drug, is legal.... while marijuana, a non addicting drug is illegal.

That about sums up the US, *** backwards....
