If a court order for child support was ruled in a Louisiana court (Lafayette Parish) and it doesn't have a specific date that payment is due (only shows $325.00 per month), according to Louisiana law how long does one have to wait for it to be considered in arrears to file contempt?

******
This has happened before, but I waited 3 months before I filed successfully without a lawyer.

But now his child support is tied in with his probation (if he doesn't pay, it will be considered a violation of his probation and he goes to jail without anymore chances), and I'm not going to give him one bloody micrometer of slack!!!

My husband & I are legally separating because of our younger daughter abusing me physically. I cannot handle her, as I get bruised up worse trying to. I also cannot deal with the abuse, which has thankfully decreased some with her going to school & daycare, but her punches are more powerful. Her punishment is time-out or loss of activities. He gets our 2 kids, ages 8 & 9, & the house. He filed for the legal separation, not me. All I really know is that I have to get a job & move out, & we have to go to court. I really need some words of wisdom here. Our church won't help me. I'm not looking for sympathy. I just need to know what to expect at court & before going to court.

Can you believe that my son's biological father gets to go by the guide lines of the state we live in? He has only seen my 5 year old 5 times and really doesn't know him at all. My son is scared that he has to stay with him this weekend and for 6 wks. in the summer. Not only that but we live almost 5 hours apart from eachother. I think that that court system is a joke and whomever wrote these rules of visitaion must not have any children at all and they really act like that we live in a perfect world and if you are able to have kids that makes you a perfect parent. I mean he didn't even care to see my son for 4 1/2 years and now that his new wife found out she can't have kids they all of a sudden want to have mine. Not only that but he owes almost $10,000 in child support, he has never paid til now. So when I've tried to prosect him for the back support they told me that they wouldn't do anything because he is now paying his $35 a week. He has never had a job in his life. What'd think?

I have two prior DUI convictions (1989 & 1992) from another state. I never attempted to get my DL back and In 2000, I relocated to another state. I am now in need of a DL in my new state. Will the prior convictions prevent or hinder my getting a DL now? It's been 14 years.

I am trying to help some of you heartbroken folks out in this world, because some of you are not getting the big picture that it takes two to make a baby. No name calling, this is probably what has caused the breakup or the other person to look eslewhere. We know that the child needs money that is a necessity to survive, but if you are making it without the child support don't cause the other parent any misfortune. Life as it's way of moving people into positions to where compromises do take place. We are putting our children in the way of issues that they should never be concerned about, some of them are barely passing their state issued exams. Custodial parents get the EIC and the convience of medicaid for the children or child, and the state includes the parent with the child. Yet the states are requiring the non- custodial parents to provide health insurance. We all know that health insurance is expensive. Child support should help solve problems yet it is creating them.

Paying parents that try to make the payments, you keep on making the payments. You can not help support the whole household that your children live under and support your household as well. I believe that paying parents are being discriminated against and taken advantage of because there are not enough tax incentives to help them survive. I know that some paying parents may make a lot of money than they are paying, but some of them do not make enough to survive. And to all those that are trying to use their children as a control factor over the other, you need to show yourself and your children some respect. Whether you like it or not the other parent will be a part of that child's life someday.

You can not make a baby by yourself. The child has two parents, so let's stop calling the other one names like "dead-beat dad" and other insults that the children are hearing about the parent that they may love. I see that child support is a big issue that is being overlooked, it should not be followed up with jail time, because there are no values in teaching a child about sending their parent or parents to jail. I see that the issue is respect, and neither the parents have respect enough to work out a way to communicate with the other in a civil manner. I hear a lot of hurt people on this site complaining and trying to take revenge on the next person, and then I hear some advice from hurt children that could have possibily heard a parent complain about the absent parent not making child support payments. Child support needs an overhaul, because both parents deserve to have visitation rights, the only one's that are being hurt are the children.( Certain situation may apply)

NJ is one state that provides for a civil committment for sex offenders that pose a significant threat to society if released. These include the ones that attain sexual gratification from the mutilation of their victims, etc. Civil committment basically amounts to a life sentence for those offenders. They are the ones most people are most afraid of but they will not appear on a registry because they are not free. Could this practice replace the need for a registry that could include "one-time offenders?"

Please, no diatrides about the recividism rates or the ratio of known to stranger offenders. This question is about the efficacy of two different methods of protecting society, not about which side of the treatment vs. punishment arguement you happen to take.
