The bad image of the ACLU is due to 2 main things:
1) They will defend the constitutional rights of people and organizations that most people don't believe need these rights. For example, Sean Hannity, Rush Limbaugh, and NAMBLA. However, the basis of this country is that ALL speech is defended and everyone has equal rights. The ACLU is often the only organization that will step up for these people, which makes a lot of people angry.
2) The right wing (ironically people like Sean Hannity and Rush Limbaugh) have demonized the actions of ACLU to the point that people only associate them with these examples and not the many, many other good organizations and people they defend.

It seems the ACLU stands for everything immoral.
It will eventually break the back of moral America.

They do good things, and they do bad things, like everyone else. My problem with them is they like to pick which rights they feel are worth fighting for. You will never see them fighting for second amendment rights, for example, and they actually support legislation seeking to limit them.

the American Civil Liberties Union are not bad, they are an organization founded to fight to protect people's rights according to the Bill of Rights

Yes, but they have a political agenda too. They need to stay out of politics and not pick and choose who'll they'll defend and who they won't!
